Hey! I’m Hannah 👋

Former professional & international 🇳🇿 footballer, current sport psychology consultant, a little surf obsessed and happy to be here! (It’s been a while… 😆)

Life’s been interesting as I’ve been on both sides of performance ☯️

I’ve experienced the highs of elite sport — the opportunities, World Cups, living and playing overseas for different teams, the big moments — and also the much less glamorous stuff that tends not to make the highlight reel…

💔 The doubt.
🔨 The pressure.
🤷🏽‍♀️ The identity stuff.
➡️ The “why can I do this in training but not when it counts?” moments.

The work I do now is grounded in an MSc in Psychology, 15 years as an elite athlete, years of football coaching kids and adults, and for the last 4-5 years I’ve been working directly with athletes across all sports and ages — helping them understand what’s actually happening beneath confidence, pressure, perfectionism, fear of failure, comparison, motivation and performance 🧠💪🏽

And no, the goal isn’t to turn athletes into emotionless robots who are “mentally tough” 24/7.

Quite the opposite 💡

I’m far more interested in helping athletes become adaptable, self-aware, emotionally intelligent, psychologically skilled humans who can perform well, still remain themselves, and get a decent amount of lol moments in along the way.

I love my job 🥰

I also really like connecting with other rad humans 🤙🏽

So if you’re new here — welcome 🤗 and reach out if you think it’d be great to connect !

You’ll find a mix of sport psychology, mindset, practical tools, honest conversations, my own surfing journey while trying to actually use all this stuff myself 😆 (I guess I’ll practice what I preach in this new sport), and the occasional reminder that performance is important…

…but you’re always still a person first, and you matter wayyyy more than any scoreboard will ever show 💙

Anyway, I’m glad you’re here 🫶🏽 by @hb.athlete.mindset

Well… sure has been a journey 😂
Some solid lived experience - a lot of lols and tears, a decent chunk of education, and a whole lot of care for the humans behind the performances.

Welcome 🤍

🙂 You can care deeply. You can want to win. You can have really high standards for yourself.

AND you can still create an environment internally where mistakes aren’t a catastrophe, uncertainty can be tolerated, and you’re allowed to actually enjoy what you’re doing.

That’s probably become one of the biggest parts of the work I care about.

Because there’s so much happening underneath performance that we don’t always see.

The selection decisions. The comparison. The criticism. The pressure to justify your place. Moving away from home. Being injured. Losing confidence. Wondering whether you’re actually good enough.

None of that means an athlete has become weak or lost their edge.

The skill is learning how to acknowledge what’s there without allowing every thought, feeling or external opinion to dictate how you compete.

And then returning, again and again, to what’s actually in front of you — the challenge, the next action, the reason you started playing in the first place.

Go get em’ 💙

Were you ever taught how to self regulate in sport? 🧐 by @hb.athlete.mindset

Does your confidence stay stable or wobble when something doesn’t go according to your plan? 🧐

$A reminder to be kind ❣️ You rarely know what someone is carrying into the day today… Before you judge, criticise or make someone feel smaller at training or competitions, (yes, that includes you coaches) even in the heat of the moment, remember: you’re only seeing a fraction of their story. A little more patience. A little less assumption. It matters 💙 #sportpsychology #athleteMindset #mentalperformance #athletementalhealth by @hb.athlete.mindset$

Success can be ALOT wider than the scoreboard 😃

Did you compete / train courageously? Stay true to your values? Focus on what you could control?

Internal standards help us recognise success beyond the scoreboard—in sport and in life 🩵

Co-regulation isn’t about relying on someone else to manage your emotions 👯

It’s about how a steady, supportive connection can help your nervous system settle enough to think clearly, make better decisions and access the skills you already have 💁🏽‍♀️

In sport, sometimes another person’s calm becomes the bridge back to your own 🫶🏽

Co-regulation is how we help each other feel calmer, safer and more settled through our presence, tone and behaviour 😌

In sport, it might look like:
• A teammate giving you a calm “you’ve got this” after a mistake
• A coach slowing things down when you’re overwhelmed
• A teammate’s steady energy helping you reset before the next play

Sometimes regulation isn’t something we do alone — we borrow calm, stoke or positivity from the people around us 🧠🤝🩵 by @hb.athlete.mindset
