My third visit to @kid_soho this time with @pocketfork visiting from LA — and a chance meeting with @morgygalinha and Aki all the way from Oz. Aaron and I had the adana; the hummus with crispy chickpeas, taramasalata and tombik pide; suçuk; tuna ezme; onion salata with sweetbread and lamb belly skewers. Plus two desserts: the new classic mint and mastic ice cream; and a preview of the new tahini sorbet. So good to see @sertacdirik and @clovecks — and thank you @david.carter.uk for dropping by to say hello #bloombergeats by @hchuaeoan
A first visit to @thehorses_ec1 — that squid with chili mayo is incredible plus that meaty ham hock salad, and you might call it a meal. But I also had oysters (one each of the four on the menu) plus the gorgeous fish pie (that top crust is practically frites) which can probably feed four. Don’t worry: I brought a lot of it home. Thank you @snowycotthuckerby for letting me know about it! #bloombergeats by @hchuaeoan
Post-Halloween revue of memorable meals: lamb hot pot and tuna sashimi salad @yukibar.london ; pork charsiu, crispy squid, and pan fried dumplings @chefmaychow ‘s residency @thepeninsulalondonhotel; and, very belatedly, my dinner @singburi_e1 with visiting colleague @pacaba: mackerel, chicken thigh, twice-cooked aubergine and pork chop. by @hchuaeoan
Another fabulous meal @_planque_ made more memorable because of serendipity: I finally got to meet @bessieng my Instagram friend who was dining with her friend Erin, after I was sat next to them at the kitchen counter. Amazing cockles, pig head pate en croute; Anjou pigeon; and all three desserts (thanks for sharing Bessie and Erin) #bloombergeats by @hchuaeoan
Finally got to @clothrestaurants Cornhill outposts. Why did I wait so long? Great vibe; perfectly seasoned, delicious mains. Loved the gravy in the pie; and the flavor of the sirloin. And was that a hint of lovage in the braised peas? Love lovage. Had a great time catching up with my cousin Winnie visiting from Toronto. And thank you @joelwporter for insisting that I dine here — and helping with the table! Love the dining counter situation and am already thinking of slotting it into my solo dining schedule by @hchuaeoan
I don’t usually go to Stratford or walk the dark little paths behind West Ham’s stadium after dark (which oddly enough reminded me of a couple of small streets in Tokyo), but I was intent on tasting the food and hospitality of @o.rebb (Ollie Brooks) and his brother Billy at their take-over of @darlings_eatery . And it was worth getting lost a couple of times! That leek flatbread alone 😋! And the non-alcoholic raspberry and sloe cocktail. Plus all the old friends from Lyle’s and Flor! (And @nick_bramham and @2.pock too). A delicious and sentimental evening. And I found my way home! by @hchuaeoan
And good night from London, through rain and shine and ups and downs. by @hchuaeoan
I wrote about @strakers__ three years ago — but not really about the food. So I was happy to be invited by @adefili to finally try it out (it’s also just opened a branch in New York’s Soho). Warm hospitality and loved that chocolate bar. by @hchuaeoan
A most fabulous Sunday lunch @qualitywinesfarringdon featuring the incredibly delicious cooking of @_alex_jackson of @gardenmuseumcafe: the lasagna-like vincisgrassi with prosciutto and fresh porcini (first images) was the standout; but I loved everything. And I found shot in the partridge! Thank you @nick_bramham for reminding me to book! And @mspearzzzz for saving me counter space. #bloombergeats by @hchuaeoan
What a meal @kid_soho with my friends @adefili and @giopionyc visiting from New York! Just my second time to the restaurant since it opened and it’s even better! The namesake kid was incredibly tender and flavorful; the amazing Adana kofte (a gift from @clovecks who was running the kitchen this evening); the onion salata with sweetbread and lamb belly skewers; the içli kofte; the bluefin ezme; a host of meze; that incredible puffy tombik pide (I think we ordered four); and the mint and mastic ice cream. Thank you Chase! And thank you chef @sertacdirik for squeezing us into one of the most difficult bookings in town! by @hchuaeoan
Another delicious meal @cafe_deco_bloomsbury this time with visiting US friends Andrea Dorfman and Jeff Schneider. But it also turned out to be a reunion of sorts with @bex_dickson and @lowejames (who caught me up with his post @lyleslondon plans; nothing imminent but he’s keeping busy). Also, Deco chef @tobiasanna was present and showed me pictures of her (and @niallharte’s) baby boy. @seamusbranch was on the floor. So it felt like home. Oh, images are the meal in reverse: the scrumptious pavlova, the pheasant, the terrific mussels and pollock; stuffed peppers; ham in aspic; and the signature egg mayo! by @hchuaeoan
My first visit to @kobalondon — which has been around for quite a bit so it’s really my fault. Thank you @barsoonie for the wonderful treat — and so much food that I forgot to photograph the delicious bbq kalbi! And so grateful too to be introduced to @rollinjoint1 whom I have followed on IG for a while. by @hchuaeoan
