Honoured to headline, especially on an Adam and Eve kind of day. When passion meets purpose, great things can happen. I had so much fun with my set - without the mic, then taking the mick, Gravity, to Bread vs Toast to more and of course, one of the best audiences!!

See what had happened was - @heart.ofthe.community Edition 📸 by @adambrainphoto Some days remind you what community feels like.

Spent tonight at a beautiful gathering created and hosted by Kofi @kofi_achina in support of the wonderful Kavita @kavitalks — a room full of care, conversation, and the kind of warmth that lingers after you leave. Grateful to have shared space with so many of my poetry people, and to have met the brilliant Maxine @maxinemeixnerx, Eve @eveofpoems and Adam @theadamrw along the way.

It’s a pleasure to announce that our last event managed to raise £512.30 in support of @carneyscommunity and their work with young people in and around Wandsworth. 💫

As always, a humongous thank you to everyone who came along for a lovely afternoon, both to share and to listen. ❤️

Yesterday felt like the heart of community

It was all for celebrating Carney's community and the power of youth, sport, and showing up for each other. I had a set that took us from childhood memories through to the eternal debate of bread vs toast and beyond - all while somehow being the headliner sandwiched between Adam and Eve (still not over that 😄!).

The energy in that room was unreal - louder than the football at times, full of care, full of life. Sharing a stage with incredible poets and fearless open micers is always a gift. I am still sitting with how special it felt. you had to be there!!!

Thank you to @kofi_achina for putting on an event of such pure energy and being such an incredible host. And to everyone who showed up and made the space glow - there are too many to name but I'll try - Cat, Jas, Eve, Layla, Saeed, Romane, Arscents, Aman, Sakinah, Mercy, Yaso, Steve, T, April, Ella, Chelsea and many more in the audience - thank you for enjoying the poetry as well as my comedy adlibs!! 🤣❤️

Pretty gassed that this Sunday, my very own poetry night (afternoon) will officially become a recurring event 🥹

Putting together @heart.ofthe.community has been an absolute joy, in large part because of the wonderful people who have helped me to do it. 💫

So make sure to grab yourself a ticket (link in my bio) and come down to @princeofpeckham help raise funds for @carneyscommunity a fantastic Wandsworth-based youth charity!

And the final headliner joining us for the afternoon will be none other than Adam RW. @theadamrw

As the founder and longtime host of Storytime, one of London’s premiere storytelling nights, Adam is a mainstay of the storytelling and poetry scene. His writing will leave you laughing, crying or both. Maybe even at the same time.

A bit more about him:
Adam is a writer of short stories and poems, a tour guide and a lover of the sweet and the whimsical. He collectively runs Storytime, a storytelling night, and Bookmarked, a literary history walking tour company. He is currently reading The Hearing Trumpet by Leonora Carrington and it’s very good.

Only a week to go so make sure you grab your ticket so you don’t miss out!!!

🚨Headline announcement!!!🚨

We’ll have the one-and-only Eve of Poems (@eveofpoems) joining us for a set next month! Eve is as formidable a poet as she is a creative facilitator and it’s an honour to have her with us.

A bit more about her:
Eve AKA Eve of Poems (she/they) is an award-winning spoken word artist, storyteller and creative community facilitator based in South-East London. A 2022 BBC Words First poet, Eve’s work has featured on BBC4, Radio 1Xtra, at BFI Flare Festival and film festivals worldwide. Her animated poem, After The After Party, won an RTS award for best short form in 2023. Her latest project, poetry film Holding An Island, is due to be released later this year.

With an immersive, trauma-informed approach, Eve brings spoken word to schools, prisons, arts organisations such as Roundhouse and Southbank Centre and programmes such as Daniel Kaluuya’s Centre 59, helping to nurture the next generation of poets. She organises and hosts Special Guest, a monthly community open mic night where the audience are the special guests and anyone can take the mic for 60 seconds.

Eve is happiest drinking tea, learning a new language, and listening to grime on TfL.

Really excited to share a bit more about the organisation we’ll be fundraising for next month - Carney’s Community (@carneyscommunity)

Established in 2011, and inspired by boxing legend Mick Carney, Carney’s Community offers a unique approach to mentoring that gives young people the tools and resources they need to be the best they can be. They provide a safe space within which they engage young people in positive activities including boxing, skills workshops, social activities, mentoring and one to one intensive key work. This support is long-term, consistent and unconditional ensuring no one gets left behind. And it’s exactly that - a community.

Make sure to come through on Sunday 10th May at the Prince of Peckham to show your support and hear a poem inspired by a visit to Carney’s Community!

We’re lucky enough to have the wonderful Kavita Hansla joining us for a headline set next month! She’s one of the most insightful and dynamic poets on the scene right now, and is sure to stun you with her words.

Here’s a bit more about her:
Kavita Hansla (@kavitalks) didn’t have much choice in her destiny - her name literally means ‘poetry’ in Hindi. Luckily, she’s a natural! Winner of Best Poet at the 2025 Mainstream UK Awards, Kavita has been acclaimed as a “rare talent” who is just as powerful on the page as she is on the stage. With over 200 performances under her belt across London’s leading stages - including a sold-out debut at the Edinburgh Fringe - she brings a commanding presence to every audience - across classrooms, corporate spaces and community. There’s no limit to what Kavita can turn into poetry - finding meaning in places you never thought to look. Her work blends sharp wordplay with storytelling that doesn’t just land - it lingers.

We’re back!!!

The Spring edition of Heart of the Community will be back at the Prince of Peckham on Sunday 10th May and this time we’ll be raising money to support @carneyscommunity , a Wandsworth-based youth charity working to provide long-term support to vulnerable and excluded young people.

As always, 100% of profits from the event will go towards Carney’s Community and supporting their work.

We’ll have the open-mic, live music, some incredible headliners and of course, games and prizes (quality may vary).

Would once again mean the world to see you there :)
