We are not in operation today as we take time to pause & reflect on the importance of this day, Call to Action 80. Today honours children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. There are many places on the internet to help educate us in our countries past. www.reconciliationeducation.ca is just one. The image used in this post is from the 2023 Instagram post made by @ihumanyouthsociety. Listen. Reflect. We helped decorate and light up the exterior of the Magrath Mansion for the @cuedmonton event! Can you see their tree while driving the Wayne Gretzky? We did that too! We hope everyone enjoys the bright light on these winter nights. #yegwinter #yegchristmaslights #yegchristmaslightinstallers #familybusiness #yegfamilybusiness #smallbusiness #shopsmall #christmaslights 📸: @ashleyasalvador by @heightsresidential

Posted @withregram • @theindigenousfoundation Orange Shirt Day (which is also known as the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation)- on September 30th is a day to honour the Indigenous children who were forcibly taken away from their families through the Residential “School” system. It is a day to raise awareness about the struggles that Indigenous communities have faced and the violence and inter generational impacts Indigenous communities face to this day.

Swipe to learn more about the meaning of Orange Shirt day and how Phyllis Webstad, an Indigenous woman started Orange Shirt Day.

This is a day not only to recognize the Indigenous children taken from their communities and families, but also day to honour those who survived, as well as the families and communities affected.

On this day, it is important to not only show your support by wearing an orange t-shirt or article of clothing but also continuing to practice allyship and educate others around you.
