The morning after a truly great day home coffee even tastes exceptional and maybe today might also be a great day too. (And it’s so gorgeous in Seattle today!)
Had a fun time at @ohmaryplay last night. Thank you for the tickets @broadwayseattle @stgpresents by @helloterumi

Last bits of October and we spent a bit of the weekend driving in the fog and working through college applications and the only costume 📸 I got this year was of Scout. (So I also added a few from long ago for #seniorsunday ❤️❤️ ) by @helloterumi

All of these photos felt kind of like fall to me but mostly I’m glad that I made it into pottery today and I need to remind myself how good it feels to go. It’s nice not to feel frantic on Halloween Eve and this is one thing I appreciate about this era even though I do miss the days of family costumes. Do you have Halloween plans? And do you have a favorite Halloween candy? Being from Canada I do love a bag of @hawkinscheezies or a @coffeecrispca and will have to remember to get some next time I head up. (It is going to be so weird with the time zone difference between here and there for the next little while too) Also do you know if it is “worth it” to stream the new Practical Magic movie, has anyone seen it yet? And I wonder how many times we watched Charlie Brown Halloween growing up. by @helloterumi

Crunchy leaves, sunshine and sweaters go perfectly with the croissants at the local bakeries and it’s been nice to get outside and explore the city when it works with our guys’ schedules. I do hope we can get to a pumpkin patch-our soccer game yesterday in @visitskagitvalley was so close but then everyone wanted to get home for the @seahawks game (and I’m actually going to my very first game ever in a few weeks too so I am really glad it was a good one!) We’ve had a couple gorgeous @pikeplacepublicmarket visits lately too and the other day it was so crowded we ended up parking near a store I’ve been dying to peek in @mountainroseherbsseattle I tried a delicious tea sample and I need to go back to get the DIY lip balm materials. I’ve always been curious about making these. Do you like to DIY? I need to get to pottery this week-with all the dark we live through in the next couple months, it helps my head so much. Hope you had a great weekend and that you have such a good week too! by @helloterumi

Such a gorgeous evening and what a turnout in @pikeplacepublicmarket last night ❤️ @diademuertos_pnw The energy reminded me of our FIFA summer and how much I love the ‘ber months in our city for how festive everything becomes through the end of the year. by @helloterumi

Behold Scout in his new Treat House
(The backstory:
Scout has a little house thing he’s had and loved since he was a baby but it’s getting really old and kind of worn out and I can’t find the same one. I thought this new one might be able to replace it but it is actually kind of flimsy and he was so skeptical about it that I thought we would probably have to return it. But then I told Scout it is a Treat House. And isn’t it amazing how marketing works?Suddenly he maybe sort of likes this new funny house, I just have to give him a treat when he sits in it. We’ll see how long this lasts.) by @helloterumi

I feel like maybe Terumi and the Sun could be the theme for my October so far as we’ve had more than our usual share of roof off car rides and rain free bike trips through the city-the days have been pretty sunshine filled and glorious.

There is leaf potpourri (doesn’t that word take you back to when we had @thebodyshop vanilla perfume and teeny whimsical shaped pearly bath beads and little bowls of dried flower petals in bathrooms) and the last of the summer flowers and while the dark feels like it’s more than the light in the day don’t you still try to soak in all the sun that you can? (Maybe especially it you’re also in the Pacific Northwest. Don’t you feel like a zombie robot if you don’t get outside between the morning dark and the night dark too?)

We saw @klaraandthesunmovie last night thanks to an early preview from @alliedglobalmarketing and I thought it was such a beautifully done film and one of the best ive seen in a while and maybe it’s because I believe so much in the value of sunlight to our souls. I didn’t read the book it’s based on yet (and maybe it’s better not to do that first if you have the choice-the critics that did not appreciate this movie as much as I did all seem to have read the book before the film so i really want to hear what you think if you end up watching it too) Thank you @lavonnelong for also letting me know it’s also an audiobook because I’ll definitely try to “read” it next when I’m waiting at soccer like where I am now by the field in the dark. (Listening to Hollow Bones by @jodipicoult which also feels like a cant-put-down-cant-stop-listening-to read )
Also soccer is one more thing that is so much better in the sun.
(And did anyone go see @sarabareilles at the Paramount, I so wanted to go to this concert. ❤️) by @helloterumi

I’ve watched #seniorsunday posts pop up over the years and I know this year it’s my turn and we’re almost two months in and I just haven’t been able to get myself to do it but I know I’ll be sad next year when I see them if I don’t join in. I love these boys dearly and we’ve gotten through so much together (among them bed rest and middle school online in the pandemic) and they’ve made me do brave for me things I never imagined I’d do. But I don’t yet feel courageous enough for the unpredictability of next year and beyond and letting two seniors go out into the big wild world all at once even though this will happen whether I’m ready or not. I just hope that as we all keep getting older we continue to try to make time to be in the same places together as much as we can. ❤️ And also I’m just going to do what I can with what we have in our now too. At least we still have a little bit of time. (Also does everyone doing these #seniorsunday posts bawl a little looking back at our parenting journeys with our kids? Is it meant to be like a little vent in all the buildup to the end of the year so it doesn’t all bottle up and explode?) by @helloterumi

Sometimes on the rare occasion I get to drive one of guys to school, Scout comes along for the ride and if we have enough time after drop off I ask him “do you want to go to Discovery Park?” and he becomes a total puppy again. It was really foggy when we arrived yesterday and I probably would have turned around and gone home if I was by myself but then I would have also missed out on spider webs glistening in the sunlight and golden trees standing like tide markers in a sea of soupy sky. Fall in our house will be so different next year and I don’t want to forget these moments. by @helloterumi

$The fall colors have been so gorgeous in the city lately and Seattle has so much art and natural beauty, I sometimes forget how lucky we are. I was invited tonight to Gather, a party at @chihulygg to celebrate @refractseattle that is happening in our city this Oct 15-18. The Seattle area is home to over 100 glass blowing studios and there will be a lot of glass blowing demonstrations around Seattle and beyond this weekend. ( @visitseattle has a map and guide that I’ll post in my stories) Have you ever watched glass being blown? I love how there is a hot shop with demonstrations at @chihulygg and I also like to visit the @museumofglass in Tacoma and this reminded me I haven’t been there in a long time. Also @prattfinearts had a screen printing station at the party and Jimothy made an appearance (and isn’t it so cool how this local raccoon has continued to inspire so much joy?!) by @helloterumi$

I was going to post this photo of Scout for his grandparents because he insists on sitting on his own blanket by us when we do a yoga class and I thought it was pretty goofy how regal he looked waiting and then I realized I have a bunch of clips from the past little while of our tiny, silly pup. He loves to be included and is definitely not scared to voice his opinions. ❤️ I love when he jump spins especially after a bath. Also I don’t know why he doesn’t like to walk his own neighborhood but if we go anywhere by car he suddenly becomes a marathon walker. Do you have a little pup that is big personality too? by @helloterumi

A few shots from the weekend: there is new snow on nearby mountain tops and we got in a bit of family time and yard work in between driving 100s of miles for school and sports. (Can you believe how much driving we all do on our weekends for kids’ activities? If we plotted the mileage on a map I think we must at least circle the globe!) Canadian Thanksgiving also reminding me to be grateful for family, health and all the sun breaks and rainbows in between real and metaphorical rain squalls. Hope you had a good weekend too. ❤️ by @helloterumi
