.
Congratulations to our Vice President Sue Hénon who received a Certificate of Appreciation from the World Orchid Conference Trust for her outstanding service. Sue managed and curated the exhibition ‘Orchids, Orchids, Orchids…’ in Dresden at the World Orchid Conference 2026.
All artists too applaud this recognition of Sue’s amazing work and thank her for her untiring dedication. The success of the exhibition would not have been the same without her.

This is my artwork for the exhibition and can now be seen in Forum Botanische Kunst in Thüngersheim. I have depicted Bärlauch Allium ursinum (Wild Garlic) in coloured pencil on paper. You can find this plant in your local woodlands and forests. It has quite a long history going back before the romans, where it was used for medical purposes.

Many thanks to the organisers of this exhibition, they have put in a lot of work and effort.

Daniel Rupić and myself standing next to an artwork of mine at the exhibition 'Der Frühling kehrt wieder' in Bad Hersfeld. We had a great opening with lots of interested visitors. There will be a tour of the exhibition on 24th May at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, where the public will also be able to ask questions and chat about the artworks shown.

The Vernissage was last Wednesday and we were open to the public from Saturday . Great to see so many people who were interested in our artworks and looking forward to meeting many more in the coming weeks. Over 70 works and 30 artists from all over Germany. A wide selection of techniques, coloured pencil, watercolour, ink, gouache, graphite and pergament to name but a few. Here is a small selection of images from setting up, to the opening. Thanks to all our colleagues for making it happen.

So, where were we? Düsseldorf in fact. The Düsseldorf Botanical Garden and then Benrath Schloss und Park to be a bit more precise. What were we doing there? A botanical drawing workshop, a museum visit, a botanical garden visit, and enjoying some good food.

After our Friday afternoon arrival, our first activity was a trip to the Botanische Garden Düsseldorf. We were given a fantastic tour of the medicinal plants and learnt about their uses. (last photo). Our tour guide included some amusing stories about several of the plants, which made it all the more interesting. We were also shown plant life that could turn out to be great survivors in our changing climate. Have you ever heard of the Turner Oak? From there, we went to a Greek restaurant, had a great dinner, and discussed all that we had just learned.

The next morning, we started off in the Benrath Park. What a beautiful place! In a very short time, my students found a place to sit and various plants to study, which they then put down onto paper. Following some refreshments in the Schloss Café, we paid a visit to the European Garden Museum which is part of the estate. A very informative place, showing the various epochs of Europe's Garden history. Graphics, paintings, installations and documentation of all kinds. A right treasure trove. There are two other Museums to visit here, while we didn't make it all the way round, there was time to discover many other surprises that the park has to offer. We rounded off the evening in an Italian restaurant. Everything within walking distance, very convenient😃.

After breakfast on our last day, we went back to the park and continued our drawing and painting. We were concentrating our efforts on compositions of botanical plant studies being shown together with their habitats. The preliminary sketches will later be used for larger artworks.

A wonderful trip. If you get the chance, make a visit, it is well worth it.

So it's that time of year again....Rudbeckia fulgida. Certainly something to brighten up the rainy days we have experienced in Germany recently. They thrive at this time of year. I can always rely on them to pop up their little heads each year without me doing very much.

And guess what? That's what we will be drawing in Frankfurts Palmengarten at the end of September. Check it out.
