POSTS STORIES REELS

Finally posting a little reel of my second Knight Despoiler. Sorry that it’s taken me so long, but I hope you like it! Let me know your favourite part.

I have finally forced myself to sit down and get a little video of this guy while I’m making some updates ahead of Armies on Parade. Very simple repose on the right leg (cut at the knee) to get the tactical rock effect. I kind of wish I hadn’t poured the resin quite so deep so more of the rock was exposed, but it’s fine. Follow me for more!

My third and final Ballistus Dreadnought, named to represent Nerovar the Apothecary of Squad Grimaldus from Helsreach. Sorry this one took so long to get a reel of, I decided to really go all out on the chipping effects. Thanks for checking it out!

Another day, another Dreadnought - I’m still working on mixing my cleaner edge highlighting with incorporating illusory painted-on chipping and weathering effects.

A clue as to why there are Apothecary symbols on this Dreadnought is on the next slide >

Any knowers?

I’m not 100% on this shin and foot, but I like the knee pad.

Getting braver at really chipping into the decals too. by @henryshobbies

Being brave and giving you all a closer look at some of the details and faux chipping I painted on Artarion, my second Ballistus Dreadnought and named after a member of Squad Grimaldus. Artarion, and the other fallen members of Squad Grimaldus, were of course gone for real and not able to be interred in Dreadnought sarcophagi after Helsreach, but my army imagines an alternate timeline where they were able to be honoured in such a way for their duty and can still join best boy Reclusiarch Grimaldus on campaign.

Artarion is one of the oldest members of the squad so I used the veteran version of the cross, and did a little repainting to turn the Tanhelm Crusade badge transfer into a closer approximation of the Armageddon Crusade badge, which there is for some strange reason not an official transfer for (I just painted over the yellow bars)

I really wanted the shoulder armour to look like it had taken a lot of glancing blows so I applied this chipping technique I practiced on Tyranid carapaces using Rhinox Hide for the recesses, Vallejo white for the lower edge highlighting, and agrax earthshade for streaking. Painting over the transfer was nerve wracking!

More examples of the chipping technique on this knee pad, and my slightly dodgy gothic script on the Helsreach banner, which needs a little tidying up still.

I’m not completely happy with the chipping on the black armour panels, but I didn’t want to introduce too many other colours. Am proud of the name plate though. Done with a fineline pen, not a brush! by @henryshobbies

Newly painted, the second of my three Ballistus Dreadnoughts, named for Artarion of Squad Grimaldus at Helsreach.

Haven’t posted a work in progress photo for a while but circumstances demand it - I really wasn’t happy with where this Ballistus Dreadnought was when I went to film a reel for it, so I’ve been taking some time this week to update and effectively finish the paintjob as there were a lot of incomplete elements. Have filmed some other ones in spare moments so look out for them but in the meantime the Templar Dreadnoughtposting will be on a slight pause!

The first of my Black Templars Ballistus Dreadnoughts, named Cador after one of the members of Grimaldus’ squad who fell at Hive Helsreach. I did some very tentative and inconsistent experiments at damage on the white armour sections on this one, I wish I’d chipped into the decals a little bit too.

My third Redemptor Dreadnought; I went back to blue plasma for this one. You can tell I was rushing this guy, I think I was trying to get a triple Redemptor list ready for a tournament.

My second Redemptor Dreadnought, painted in 2023; this model has what is probably still the best ‘hot plasma glow’ effect I’ve ever painted - all done before I had an airbrush!

This was the first Redemptor Dreadnought I painted for my Black Templars, five years ago now I think! it represents a few early experiments in doing glowing plasma (without a tutorial), creating a flat armour shade gradient (all brush!) and making a tabard out of green stuff. I didn’t really try that again due to how stressful it was, so my other Redemptors don’t have tabards. I’m more confident with greenstuff now so maybe I should return to them!

The really long purity seals are from a Battle Sister Squad Simulacrum Imperialis.
