Don’t miss Alicia Eggert’s solo show At a Time Like This, now on view in Brooklyn, NY, @urbanglass_nyc ✨ Pictured: Your Magic is Real, 2019-25 (edition #2)
158” x 280” x 180”
Neon, LEDs, steel, aluminum, wood, acrylic, electronics, audio.
Your Magic Is Real is designed to inspire wonder and to evoke the power of collaboration. This
immersive light and sound installation was made in collaboration with James Akers, with music composed by Marco Buongiorno Nardelli. When people first enter the room, they encounter a stark space that is devoid of light and color. Handprint sensors on a central platform are spaced far
enough apart that a single person can’t touch both sensors on their own. But when two or
more people join together to bridge that physical and metaphorical divide, a small electrical current passes through their bodies to complete a circuit, and the room immediately begins to
come to life. The longer participants hold hands, the more the room fills with light, color and sound. As soon as participants break their physical connection, the space immediately goes dark and silent once again.
Electrical engineering and programming by Jason Mishou.
Music by Marco Buongiorno Nardelli, with voice samples by Júlia Coelho.
Neon bending by Nebula Neon.
Fabrication assistance provided by Ryan Goolsby, Megan Scoma, Allison Wentworth, Diego
Ponce Hernandez, Christina Vasquez and Archit Karkare. by @higniteprojects

Strategy Sessions are now open for March! Spots are limited, so if you’ve been waiting to book, now’s the time! Link in bio. See you soon! by @higniteprojects

Alicia Eggert and James Akers were at UrbanGlass yesterday evening for the opening reception of "At a Time Like This," an exhibition featuring the latest iteration of their collaborative work "Your Magic is Real" (2019-2025).

The room-sized installation celebrates collaboration at a time of deep political divisions, and requires human connection to activate its immersive lights and sound.

In a two-minute crescendo, the experience builds into a triumphant celebration as the words "You Are Magic" illuminate the gallery space at the Brooklyn nonprofit art center.

The exhibition is up through May 5, 2025, and also features Eggert's work "All the Light You See (Infinity)" (2019).
