My picnic-themed art show at the end of the school year this past spring was a true labor of love. I loved pre-planning the projects together to form a cohesive show, getting the displays just right to suit my vision, and, of course, finding more and more ways to combine my two passions—food and art! It will be hard to top it next year, but fret not! I have a few fresh ideas percolating already 🤫

Finally unlocked the secret to an interesting figure drawing project: throwing everything at it! After a week working on gesture drawings, my Drawing and Painting kiddos were tasked with creating a composition of figures, each made of a different medium we've used this year. The rest of the theme was up to them, and they delivered! Pastels, paint, markers, watercolor, colored pencils, and more--and now we've got these going up! by @hillartsy

I’m not supposed to have favorites but I just love how these @sewyoursoul inspired felt foods came out with my eighth graders. We learned how to sew and think about familiar objects as three dimensional forms for easy construction. The choice of food was up to my kiddos, and they really got to let their creativity loose! We have one more project left this year, and then these artists are onto high school 😭 by @hillartsy

🚂 Nothing Can Stop Us Now🥧

So I’ve kinda fallen off on the #aoeminis2025 this week. Mainly because last week I used @procreate and remembered that I actually really like it! Been a while since I was teaching it, so we’re a little rusty, but had such a fun time working on this scene that I did two versions—truer to me and truer to the ride. This one is in fact NOT on the “do not ride” list but a certain insider who made it twice and has personal interest in my passenger won’t let me go on it 🫠 so until we can enjoy it again, here’s a lil art version. Which one do you like better? by @hillartsy

🏰11. Happy Place 🏰 #aoeminis2025

“To all who come to this happy place, welcome!”
Today’s @theartofed mini masterpiece was a no brainer to come up with, but took me all day to get “done enough” with. Physically cannot try another pass at Walt’s face or I’ll put a hole through the paper but things got much easier when I remembered the tiny brushes I bought moons ago. Sharing the process though because that’s how we grow! by @hillartsy

🎃10. Scary 🎃 #aoeminis2025

Okay full disclosure, this started out as today’s #minimasterpiece and when it wasnt coming out how I wanted it, I pivoted in a BIG way and went to procreate, and ended up as a little animation experiment. @avi.tuchman very nicely did not laugh me back to my watercolors over my attempts. The big bad Boogie needs some more movement, but it’s getting late for SCARY so here he is. by @hillartsy

🤪 9. Bag 🤪 #aoeminis2025
Name a stranger Disney character design than the lovable Danny pack, Pouchy, from Inside Out 2. Somehow the first thing that popped into my mind for the @theartofed prompt today for Bag! by @hillartsy

💜⚡️8. Charge⚡️💜 #aoeminis2025
Getting my girl Violet in for today’s #minimasterpieces prompt, Charge. Might be time to watch this classic again 🦸🏻‍♀️

Putting these amazing pics by @cintiaallyphotography on the feed because I love them so much. We took these back in April so we’ve grown quite a bit since then! Can’t believe this week we’re coming to the end of second trimester already 🫨🫨🫨 by @hillartsy
