What is the tobacco endgame? 🚭 At the Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Hawai‘i (CTFH)’s 30th Anniversary Stakeholder Meeting, we welcomed Dr. Ruth Malone as this year’s keynote speaker to explore the theme, Tobacco Endgame Hawai‘i. A professor emeritus of nursing and health policy at the University of California, San Francisco, Dr. Malone has spent decades working in tobacco control and advancing the tobacco endgame. In this interview, she explains how the tobacco endgame goes beyond traditional tobacco control. It means examining and changing the systems that perpetuate the tobacco epidemic. As CTFH marks 30 years of tobacco prevention and control efforts in Hawai‘i, this conversation invites us to think about what it takes to create lasting, systemic change. #TobaccoFreeHawaiʻi #PublicHealth by @hiphiyc
The only thing scarier than horror movies is the tobacco industry! Pouches is the latest ploy that Big Tobacco is using to hook youth into lifelong nicotine addiction. And while the shark in JAWS had big beautiful teeth, nicotine pouch use can cause significant gum irritation, tissue damage, irreversible gum recession, dry mouth, and increased risk of tooth decay. #CTFHhorrorweek #tobaccofreehawaii by @hiphiyc
🏆 Congratulations to Jeremiah Jacinto, this year’s recipient of the CTFH Honorary Bob Toyofuku Outstanding Advocate of the Year Award! We’re incredibly proud of Jeremiah and the lasting impact he’s made in Hawaiʻi. Mahalo for your leadership, dedication, and commitment to creating a tobacco-free Hawaiʻi! 💙 A special mahalo to Taylor Wong for accepting the award on Jeremiah’s behalf while he continues his studies at Harvard University. #takedowntobacco #tdt #breathealoha #hiphivc #808novape by @hiphiyc
Mahalo to everyone who joined us for the Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Hawaiʻi (CTFH) 30th Anniversary Stakeholders Meeting! This year’s theme was “Tobacco Endgame Hawaiʻi,” a look at how we can move beyond managing the tobacco epidemic and work to end it. Our keynote speaker, Dr. Ruth E. Malone, RN, PhD, Professor Emeritus of Nursing and Health Policy at UCSF, defined the tobacco endgame and shared initiatives designed to permanently change the structural, political, and social dynamics that sustain the commercial tobacco epidemic. She first used the term “endgame” in a 2010 editorial, and the idea has since gained global traction. The day also featured an opening panel, “Call to Action,” with leaders from the Tobacco-Free Hawaiʻi Island Coalition, the Hawaiʻi State Attorney General’s office, UCSF, and the CTFH Youth Council, followed by a closing panel with Hawaiʻi lawmakers, including Senator Brandon Elefante @senelefante, Representative Trish La Chica @reptrishlachica, Representative Lisa Marten @lisamartenhawaii, and Senator Karl Rhoads @karl_rhoads_13 After 30 years of progress, Hawaiʻi has active coalition partners, an engaged youth council, and a community that values health, teamwork, and living in balance. The next chapter starts now. Mahalo nui loa to the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation @hawaiicommunityfoundation and the Hawaiʻi State Department of Health @hawaiidoh for your generous support. #TobaccoEndgameHawaii #CTFH #TobaccoFreeHawaii #PublicHealth #HawaiiHealth by @hiphiyc
