A statement from your NCSAC President, Hish Clifford, regarding the recent heartbreaking news in downtown St. Catharines. by @hish_clifford

Knights, today marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (also known as Orange Shirt Day). 🧡

We share and echo President Hish’s sentiments in encouraging our community to pause, reflect, and learn on this day.

After all, meaningful reconciliation begins with understanding, and an ongoing commitment to positive change. by @hish_clifford

Yesterday, Niagara College hosted the Honourable Mike Harris, Minister of Natural Resources, and Parliamentary Assistant Dawn Gallagher Murphy.

The government of Ontario announced its investment with combating invasive phragmites. Our beautiful Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus is the perfect place for supporting sustainability leadership initiatives. It literally is a living laboratory, where students can apply what they learn in class to real challenges.

An investment that aligns with student advocacy efforts, and enables Work Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities that build career readiness, opens doors to student employment, and prepare graduates for a field that communities across Ontario increasingly need.

On September 21, Niagara College welcomed the Honourable Nolan Quinn, Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security (MCURES), to the Welland Campus.

The visit coincided with exciting news: through the Province’s Priority Growth Fund, Niagara College will receive up to $23 million over three years to create 1,021 new seats in 33 programs across health, skilled trades, STEM, and education.

On behalf of NC students, thank you to the Province of Ontario for believing in applied post-secondary education. Student leaders have long advocated for stronger investment in Ontario’s colleges, because we know that when students have access to quality facilities, exceptional teaching, and work-integrated learning, we graduate ready to contribute to our communities and workplaces. This funding means more students will have the opportunity to experience the applied education that prepares us to be “Monday-morning ready” when we enter our careers.

It’s always a pleasure to meet with Minister Quinn and celebrate the success of students and alumni who chose the college route for their post-secondary education.

This morning we celebrated the grand opening of the Niagara SPCA and Humane Society, Wellness Clinic.

I even got to experience a behind the scenes tour and I was blown away! SPCA Niagara is a charity (not a government organization) doing extraordinary work with limited resources. They’re growing. They’re in need. And they’re a perfect example of the kind of organization that student leaders should know about and get involved with.

Here’s some of what I learned:
🐕 Student opportunities — ride-alongs with bylaw officers, volunteer pathways to prepare you for employment in the industry

🎓 Leadership development — they will be recruiting new board members in 2027

💪 Real-world impact — volunteers and board members told me they’re repaired and transformed by this work

P.S. Combo, (our model for today) is looking for her forever home 🐾🐕 by @hish_clifford

Birdies for a good cause 🏌️‍♂️⛳️

Over $100,000 was raised today towards funding student athlete scholarships at this year’s annual Niagara College Golf Classic.

Our varsity athletes juggle full course loads, placements, part-time jobs, commuting between campuses, and 10+ hours a week training, all while maintaining some seriously impressive grades (most sit at 80%+).

Huge shoutout to the NC team, sponsors, and our incredible student-athletes, like Allied Health Director & Paramedic student Cody Gamble, who somehow balances board duties, varsity golf, and part time employment!

Thank you to NC staff, sponsors, donors, and everyone who came out to support our Knights athletes.

To help ease the financial pressures endured by students, NCSAC is introducing 10% off Food & Beverage items for all student members at every NCSAC outlet. Check out our fresh menu boards for side-by-side student pricing!

This is just the beginning. We’re working behind the scenes to stretch your dollars off-campus, too. Keep your eyes open for the Very Important Knights (VIK) program bringing you exclusive discounts across the Niagara Region. ⚡️

Major love to our ops, marketing, and design teams who worked around the clock on a short deadline to bring this initiative to life. by @hish_clifford

When you represent your student association, your board of directors expects a report. Here’s a glimpse into those 12+ hour conference days.

These next few slides show what student leadership actually looks like: the grind, the ideas, the connections, and even some of the fun. by @hish_clifford

If every student voice can’t sit at the Board table, then I’m coming to yours. 🍽️

Real representation isn’t about filling non-voting roles or ticking boxes, it’s about actively listening to student experiences where they actually happen and then taking action.

Today I had an impactful lunch conversation with Indigenous student representatives to discuss real campus experiences. A big part of being @yourncsac President is developing direct, meaningful relationships across all student bodies.

If you or your community want to connect, my door is open. by @hish_clifford

Huge shoutout to everyone who dropped by our very first virtual Student Leaders Meet-up today! We had a blast swapping stories, and talking about what it’s really like navigating our roles.

We had 7 schools represented at our peak today for a completely casual chat. We shared ideas on things we are working on and obtained guidance to problems we individually navigate at our respective schools. If you are a senior student leader at an Ontario college, this space is for you. It’s a monthly, casual drop-in to help us learn from each other.

📅 Mark your calendars: We meet every third Thursday of the month. See you in August! DM me to be added to the official invite list. by @hish_clifford
