This may be one of the most ambitious projects I’ve ever completed. It’s not just a fancy paint job, it’s also a feat of engineering. Each lightning bolt is a series of individual strips of wood, and on top of that, the wood is from the clients grandmothers maple tree from Warwick Rhode Island. The wood grain runs parallel to each lightning bolt, so I’m breaking all sorts of rules of woodworking. #shredguitar #customguitar #luthier #holcombguitars #madeinrhodeisland by @holcombguitars

A closer look at the Nadacaster 5 string bass outfitted with a Sliding blade humbucker! I love taking the time to make an instrument as unique as possible. This bass has a custom pickup made by yours truly that rides on a sliding platform that allows for not just an endless variety of tones but also the ability to manipulate your sound while you play.

Holcomb Guitars showed up at Fretboard Summit 2026 with some serious custom builds on display, but the one that stopped us in our tracks was a bass with a sliding pickup. Didn’t know we needed this but we do.

Tag a bass player who needs to see this.
