@holdingliat is now on @AppleTV.

This was one of the first scenes we documented with Liat's father, son and sister. Right away, we knew we had a responsibility to tell this story: three generations of one family grappling with different ideologies, politics and ways of processing their grief.

In a moment of escalating polarization, we hope that bringing HOLDING LIAT into people's homes gives families and friends an opportunity to watch the Beinin-Atzili family's story and reflect together.

HOLDING LIAT was just named to the Best Documentary Feature Shortlist for the 98th Academy Awards.

Two years ago, we picked up our camera to document the story of our relatives’ experience going through a crisis. This film was created with the belief that the humanity, the compassion, and the complexity of Liat’s family’s experience could offer a space for greater understanding, connection and healing in a deeply painful and polarized time. We are deeply grateful that Liat and her family, and the values this film represents, has been recognized alongside so many other exceptional films we admire.

HOLDING LIAT is a true independent film - which really means it is the result of an incalculable web of interdependence between all the crew, supporters, community members and audiences who have believed in the film along the way and dedicated their craft, care and passion to make the film possible.

We are thrilled to bring this story to audiences in the US when HOLDING LIAT opens theatrically on January 9th, starting with the Film Forum in NYC, the Laemmle Theaters in LA, followed by additional cities nationwide. We invite you to see the film and join the conversation.

Major congratulations to all of the other films shortlisted and to all those who worked so hard to tell such urgent and beautiful stories at a time when these stories are needed most.

There's a groundswell of audience demand for access to more documentaries about pressing social and political issues - about Israel, Palestine, and beyond. So why are distributors still scared?

We are encouraged by today's news that @neonrated will distribute NAZA, and the massively expansive conversations around Nathan Fielder & Lance Oppenheim's film YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING, which all expand access to these films and get more people talking about documentaries.

We need more brave documentaries distributed, not less.

Thanks to Brian Welk at @indiewire for this excellent reporting on how independent films like @holdingliat, @thevoiceofhindrajabfilm, @nootherland.film, @coexistencemyass, @americandoctorfilm, @askejeanfilm, @putyoursoulonyourhand.film and @mr.nobodyagainstputin have navigated distributor fears and found creative ways to directly reach audiences to have an impact in the world. by @holdingliat

An important and comprehensive article by @IndieWire featuring many Albi-supported films and others we stand with, making the case for independent distribution at a time when traditional distributors remain largely indifferent to films engaging with Israel-Palestine.

Albi is proud to be part of a growing ecosystem of independent distribution and impact work, bringing these films to audiences and communities around the world. We believe the success of these films should be measured not only in box office numbers, but in the conversations they spark, the relationships they build, and the impact they have through intentional distribution.
