Telling a global history of the Holocaust through local stories from the North of England.

POSTS STORIES REELS

From November 11th to December 20th 2026, the atrium of Holocaust Centre North will be host to a temporary exhibition of works by photographer Richard Wood. Wood's research project A Dark Road Without Horizon documents six sites from the Aktion T4 programme and poses questions about how they are memorialised and remembered.

Join us for the opening night on November 10th from 5pm, for a quiet preview of the work followed by a conversation between Richard Wood and Dr David Rudrum (Department of Media, Humanities and the Arts at the University of Huddersfield) exploring memorialisation and its intersection with lived experience of disability in the present day. Tea, coffee and snacks provided.

Book your free ticket via the link in our bio!

📷 #1&2: Schloss Grafeneck: T4 SS dining room later used by disabled residents as a disco and cinema room.

📷 Image #3: Schloss Grafeneck - Detail of curtain and block print artwork in a window space in the main dining room. This room has functioned as one of the main rooms in the building since its original use as the main dining/function space for the pre war disabled residents. When the building was taken over by SS troops and administration, the room was used in much the same way but by the doctors, administration and SS during the T4 murders. Post war, the room returned to use by disabled residents, and was used for cinema evenings, discos and events. The room is now unused by residents of the site, and only operates as a bad weather lecture room for visiting parties of students.

📷 Image #4: Brandenburg - Redacted image of the grounds of the killing facility. This T4 site has been completely razed. Some brick foundations remain, but the majority of the site is now a car park. The redacted image reflects the erasure of the site, along with the bureaucratic issues faced when the artist visited the location. by @holocaustcentrenorth

Join us tonight for the launch of ‘Stories That Bring Us Together: Disappeared Persons in the Context of the Colombian Armed Conflict’, an exhibition exploring the human, social and political dimensions of forced disappearance in Colombia through co-created audiovisual stories developed with communities in Caquetá.

The event will begin with a presentation by Professor Claire Taylor, Gilmour Chair of Spanish and Professor in Hispanic Studies at the University of Liverpool (@livuni ), whose research includes memory studies, Latin American culture and digital culture. Professor Taylor will reflect on the role and importance of constructing narratives of memory in societies affected by conflict and violence, with particular attention to the contribution of grassroots initiatives to processes of remembering and memorialisation.

The second part of the event will bring audiences into direct conversation with members of the Maravilla Collective from the Escuela Audiovisual de Belén de los Andaquíes in Caquetá, Colombia, who will join the event live online from Colombia. They will introduce the project and share the processes through which the audiovisual stories at the centre of the exhibition have been co-created with communities affected by armed conflict.

Today we remember Lilian Black OBE, our former Chair and a true force of nature.

Her commitment to establishing a Centre for Holocaust education in the North of England was unwavering. Her determination, passion and legacy continue to shape our work today.

At Holocaust Centre North, we remember Lilian everyday. by @holocaustcentrenorth

We were honoured to hear Liesel Carter BEM share her remarkable story earlier this month at the AJR conference held at Holocaust Centre North.

Born in Germany in 1935, Liesel aged 4, travelled alone through Europe to Britain, to escape Nazi persecution, where she eventually settled in Leeds. Despite losing her father and many family members in the Holocaust, Liesel built a happy life and continues to share her story, promoting tolerance, equality and Holocaust remembrance.

We are grateful to Liesel for sharing her experiences with a room full of Holocaust educators, helping ensure that the stories of survivors continue to inform and inspire future generations.

Earlier this month Holocaust Centre North was honoured to host the AJR’s Remembering & Rethinking 2026 conference in Huddersfield, bringing together voices from across the UK’s Holocaust education and remembrance sector for two days of discussion, reflection and collaboration.

It was really great to host the sector in Huddersfield, and we look forward to collaborating further.

Thank you to all the teachers and educators who joined us for our Educating Against Hate CPD Day at Holocaust Centre North!

It was a brilliant day of discussion, collaboration and workshops exploring how we can challenge prejudice and antisemitism, engage students with Holocaust history, and discuss how we can challenge hate in the classroom.

A huge thank you to all our speakers and partner organisations for sharing their expertise. @antisemitismpolicytrust @annefranktrustuk @teachfortomorrowuk @huddersfielduni @collingwoodlearning
