A strong geomagnetic storm is always beautiful but it is in the faintest details I find the most interresting features. Pulsating auroras can usually be seen after a substorm but what causes them ?
The key player is a type of electromagnetic wave in Earth's magnetosphere called chorus waves. These waves can scatter trapped electrons and periodically send them down into the atmosphere. As the electron precipitation turns on and off, the aurora brightens and fades in a matching rhythm.
This timelapse is taken at @hotelranga on Wednesday, after the main display of the night was over and the sky was filled with diffused pulsating auroras.
Have you ever seen pulsating auroras before ?

Step inside the South America Suite at Hotel Rangá and you’re immediately met by the warmth of Peru. 🇵🇪

These vibrant wooden panels aren’t just for show—they were sourced directly from the Peruvian rainforest. We chose to highlight two “sister trees,” Yellowheart and Purpleheart, for their stunning natural contrast and durability.

Surrounding yourself with these natural textures is part of the Rangá experience. Discover more about our themed suites at the link in our bio or hotelranga.is. 🪵✨ by @hotelranga
