Most people think our story is about building a house.

It isn’t.

The real story is that we spent years waiting, saving, paying off debt, and making decisions before we ever saw a single wall go up.

What I’ve learned is that the homes we love most aren’t created by people with unlimited budgets.

They’re created by people who are willing to start before they have everything figured out.

A home doesn’t become meaningful because it costs more.

It becomes meaningful because it’s built with intention.

Room by room.
Decision by decision.
Year by year.

The library, the outdoor kitchen, the garages, the countless projects, the details everyone sees now…

Those are the result of thousands of small choices made over time.

If you’ve been waiting until you have more money, more confidence, or the perfect plan before moving forward, this is your reminder that clarity usually comes from action—not the other way around.

What is one space in your home you’ve been putting off because you’re afraid of getting it wrong?

👇 Tell me below.

At just 7 years old, the magic of “Beauty and the Beast” swept me off my feet in theaters! From the enchanting French castle to the breathtaking landscapes and captivating storyline, I found myself utterly mesmerized. Belle’s passion for reading resonated with me deeply—who else remembers devouring the Babysitters Club? 📚✨ I was in awe watching her glide across that library ladder, gazing up at endless rows of books, and it ignited a dream within me: to one day step into a space like that or maybe even create my own personal library sanctuary in my future home. 🥹🫶🏼🖤🪜🕰️🕯️

Okay, I think the ring deserved its own carousel because LOOK AT THESE PHOTOS. 😍

I love it even more seeing all the little details up close. We started with that beautiful old mine cut diamond because I knew I wanted something that felt antique, then @gems_bygemma built everything around it so intentionally. The diamonds from my original wedding band now surround the center stone, and hidden inside are Rogue and Canon’s birthdays, the date Chris and I started dating, and our wedding date. Almost 20 years of memories tucked into one ring. 🤍

I really can’t recommend Gemma enough if you’re looking for something custom and meaningful. She took all of my ideas (and there were A LOT 😂) and somehow made something that feels completely like me.

And @nolens.photography absolutely KILLED these photos. I’m so glad I have these because they captured every detail so beautifully.

Still obsessed. 💍 Which detail is your favorite? by @hgtv

I’ve realized over the years that I don’t really care if our house looks like anyone else’s. I care about how it feels to live here. I want the kind of home where date night can happen at our own bar, where we can disappear into the library, where staying home actually feels better than going out. That’s really what I think good design is. Not creating a house that looks impressive, but creating one that fits your life so well you don’t feel like you need to escape it. 🖤

Almost exactly a year ago, I looked down at my wedding ring and realized the center diamond I had worn for almost 20 years was gone. I had JUST gotten to work, and the video of me checking into the office five minutes earlier looked like I still had it. We searched everywhere, and somehow… it was just gone. I still haven’t found it.

When I shared it here that day, so many of you told me your own heartbreaking (and hopeful!) lost diamond stories. I also asked you to tag ring designers you loved, and out of HUNDREDS of recommendations, that’s how I found @gems_bygemma . 🤍

I knew I wanted an old mine cut that looked antique, and when Gemma showed me this diamond, I immediately loved it. We started with the stone and built the entire ring around it, which is funny because that’s basically how I design every room in our house too. Find the thing that makes me feel something, then intentionally build around it.

The diamonds from my original wedding band now surround the center stone, and inside we engraved Rogue and Canon’s birthdays, the date Chris and I started dating, AND our wedding date. So many details you can’t see from the outside, but I know they’re there… which might be my favorite part.

Gemma finished it in July, and I’ve been meaning to share the whole story ever since. I truly cannot recommend her enough. She listened to every idea, helped me through ALL the decisions when I had never designed a ring before, and created something that feels completely different from my original ring while still carrying pieces of it with me.

Thank you, Gemma, for taking something I was genuinely devastated to lose and helping me turn it into something so personal and meaningful. I absolutely LOVE how it turned out. 💍🤍

Now tell me what you think!!!

P.S. I am STILL holding out hope that my original diamond randomly shows up someday. 😂 by @hgtv

Money can’t buy happiness… but creating a home that feels like you gets pretty close. 😂📚

This library didn’t come from following what was trending or worrying about resale. It came from asking one question:

How do I want this room to make me feel?

That question changed everything for me.

Your home doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s to be beautiful. It should feel so good to live in that you don’t constantly dream about escaping it.

That’s the whole idea behind the way I design now. 🖤

The new fall @chrislovesjulia x @loloirugs collection got me with all the moody colors. 😍🖤

I grabbed two pillows for the library and ordered the NORA in Midnight/Olive for our bedroom — swipe to see because I cannot WAIT to get it in there! 🌑🫒

I love pieces that make a home feel warm, layered, personal, and like a place you actually want to stay awhile.

I think we worry way too much about whether other people will like the choices we make in our homes.

Is it too dark? Too much? Too weird? What will people think?

But this library is probably the best example of why I stopped caring about that.

I wanted it moody. I wanted it dramatic. I wanted it to feel like stepping into another world. I wanted it to feel like us.

Once I started focusing more on how I wanted a room to feel instead of whether everyone else would approve of it, everything got easier.

Your home does not have to be for everyone.

It just has to feel really, really good to you.

Share this with someone who needs to make the bold choice. 🤎 by @hgtv

I loved tonight’s live 🖤 I feel like so many of us can relate to having a million ideas for our homes and then getting completely stuck trying to decide what actually makes sense.

I went through some of the questions you guys sent in and talked through how I would think about them in my own house. Not necessarily just what I would pick, but how I would get to the decision in the first place.

That part is such a big piece of how I approach our home. I want things to feel intentional, connected, and like they actually fit the way we live here.

I hope this was helpful and gave you a little more clarity if you’ve been overthinking something in your own house too.

Did you like this kind of live? What other questions do you still have for me? Drop them below so I can keep answering them 🥰 by @hgtv

One of my favorite things about our home is finding little ways to make the spaces we already love work even better for the way we actually live. So of course, the library needed its own coffee setup. ☕️ 📖

We added the CAFÉ Specialty Drip Coffee Maker with Thermal Carafe from @cafeappliances . I love that the Coffee Maker in the Matte Black finish with Brushed Black hardware feels just as intentional in this room as the books, lighting and all the little details I’ve collected over time.

Chris can customize his brew strength and temperature exactly how he likes it, and we can brew anywhere from 1–10 cups depending on the day.

For me, good design has never just been about how a room looks. It’s about creating spaces you actually want to spend time in.🤎
