A wise college professor once told me: “You know, you never really figure life out completely.”

My youth and impatience couldn’t fully understand what she meant then. But time and experience has taught me that you don’t need to have a perfect plan. You don’t have to have perfect timing. When in doubt, err on the side of jumping in and figuring it out instead of hanging back and overthinking.

Grateful for another year to practice this wisdom.

I’ve been thinking a lot about this quote I read recently: “Stop trying to fit into rooms you’ve already outgrown.”

I’ll confess that I’ve been guilty of this, even in the past year. Trying to return to places I thought once brought satisfaction. Turning to old tools, patterns and coping mechanisms. Because the truth is, new rooms are scary. They are bigger, intimidating, and seemingly impossible to navigate. Which is exactly why they are indicative of true growth and maturity. If it scares you, you’re in the right room. If it pushes you, you’re in the right room. If the faces are new, you’re in the right room. If there’s space to stretch and grow, you’re in the right room.

Here’s to another of year of bigger, better and more refreshingly challenging rooms.

4pm holds a special place today. As mom would often remind me, I don’t officially turn over a new year till a few minutes after that time. This always annoyed me somewhat, but I reckon the one who labored to give birth to me has that prerogative.

But, does it really matter exactly when something happens? Does it make a difference when you are born, when you grow, when you succeed, or how non-linear the path was that led you there? When taken all together, what truly counts is that it did happen and the gratitude and blessing we have to march onward. The date on the calendar and the precise position of the clock’s hands are minor details.

Special thanks to the excellent tailoring and styling work of @arirosmarin and @michaelandrewsbespoke on this suit made of beautiful @fratellitalliadidelfino fabric.
