Summer memories 2026: The Hagiwara Japanese Tea Garden in San Francisco, in Golden Gate Park, is one of my favourite spots in the US. Even when it's brimming with tourists, the serenity and calm cut through like the koi circling the ponds, carving ripples on the surface of the waters. The solemn stone lantern pictured was a gift funded by Japanese school children in the wake of WWII. Sit with that thought for a minute. The pagodas, the Buddha, the gorgeous gardens and vivid maples, bonsai, waterfalls, and the bustling tea house itself, are all charming in their own ways, like the moon bridge. But it is in the art of noticing details, like who the founding Hagiwara family was, or the lantern backstory, that we can make images with a sense of wonder and aha moments.

Philly '94. Amsterdam '95. New Orleans '10-11. Berlin '26 ....?? by @hunter_boyle

Words to live by. #GSD #JFDI #InItToWinIt by @hunter_boyle

I did my first graffiti art piece in 1985 on a wall in Queens, New York. And like all first efforts, it was more crap than art.
But back home in Philly, I stuck with it, kept learning and got better quickly. Covered a lot of turf with our mighty PIA crew. Even got some art up in '95 in Amsterdam before shifting from doer to observer/photographer.
But aside from a respectable relapse in New Orleans in 2011, I hadn't rocked the paint cans in 20 years. Until last Saturday -- when I was graciously invited to pitch in on @thepatersonproject before I left Melbourne.
#ThePatersonProject is such a great concept, for a truly worthy cause. I wish I could be at the big celebration tonight. I was mighty rusty and can't say I love how my piece turned out. But just like 30 years ago, I'm so inspired by all the fellow artists crushing it down there, that I can't wait to get back down to Oz and rejoin the party.
If you're involved in the project, as an artist, fan, supporter or friend, I'd love to connect with you on here and when I get back to Melbourne in a few months.
Meanwhile, have a blast tonight and Michael, @nictatt and @vintagecurrent thank you again for such a unique, incredible experience. I'll never forget it. by @hunter_boyle
