I served 10 years in prison. But I’m not the only one.

An October 2026 report estimates that nearly 200,000 women and girls are incarcerated across this country. And about 1 in 4 women in state prison are serving time for drug offenses.

Behind every number is a woman with a story. I know, because I was one of them.

I didn’t just come home. I came to change things.

After 10 years of prison I learned that everyone had an opinion about things they had no courage to do themselves. Do you agree?

10 years. 3 lessons.
One changed life.
Prison taught me that no one owes me anything, that hurt usually starts long before a conviction, and that once you’re out of sight, the world often forgets you.
Those lessons shaped me, but they don’t define me.

I didn’t just come home. I came home to change things. 💚

After serving 10 years in prison, I came home to a world that reminded me every day that my sentence wasn’t really over.

The prison doors opened, but the barriers remained.

I experienced firsthand what it meant to be judged by my past, denied opportunities, and forced to fight for a second chance in a society that says people deserve one.

But I refused to let my past determine my future.

I went from being directly impacted by the criminal legal system to helping change the very laws that once excluded people like me.

In 2022, through Barred Business and alongside our partners, we helped make history in Atlanta by securing civil rights protections for justice-impacted people in employment, housing, and public accommodations.

And Atlanta was just the beginning.

Today, I’m working to take those protections statewide in Georgia because your past should not be a life sentence to discrimination.

My story is bigger than prison.
It’s bigger than reentry.
It’s about restoration, leadership, power, and what happens when the people closest to the problem become the architects of the solution.

I didn’t survive 10 years in prison just to come home and be silent.

I came home to change things. And I’m just getting started. 💚

I served 10 years and I was scared when I came home. I didn’t know what I was facing. I was left for dead but I counted on God and got it out the mud.
