Y’all, being an Eagles fan this season is requiring a whole different level of emotional flexibility. 😭😂🦅

And I know my fellow Eagles fans understand EXACTLY what I’m talking about!

But this week feels a little different.

Because as much as I love football, there are things that matter so much more than what happens on that field.

And sometimes being a fan means holding a whole lot of emotions at once.

Disappointment. Frustration. Concern. Hope. Love for your team.

All of it can exist together. 💛

That’s one of the things I appreciate about this Regulated Football series. We’re making room for the full experience of being fans without making ourselves wrong for having feelings about it.

You can be invested without being consumed.

You can care deeply and still pay attention to what all that caring is doing in your body.

And you can absolutely question a coaching decision without needing to become the head coach yourself. Although some of us have VERY strong qualifications from our living rooms. 😂🏈

And before anything else, Jalen, we’re praying you have a full and complete recovery. Your health comes first, always. 💛

Now, football family, how are we doing this week? 👀

And Eagles fans, I especially need to hear from y’all. 😂

Same game. A more regulated you.

Go Birds! 🦅

Some of us were taught to move quickly from struggle to Scripture, from disappointment to gratitude, and from pain to praise. But prayer, gratitude, and worship can coexist with lament, grief, and emotional honesty. These practices are beautiful expressions of our relationship with God, but they were never meant to replace our need to acknowledge what we are truly experiencing.

Lament is not a failure of faith. Emotional honesty is not a sign that we are spiritually weak. Bringing our questions, sorrow, anger, and uncertainty to God can be an act of trust because it means we believe God can meet us in the truth of our lives.

There is a difference between finding peace and feeling pressured to appear peaceful.

Sometimes what we call spiritual maturity is actually a pattern of minimizing our humanity. But faith does not require us to deny what hurts. It invites us to bring our whole selves into relationship with God, including the parts that are grieving, confused, or overwhelmed.

Throughout Scripture, we encounter people who questioned, lamented, wrestled, wept, prayed, gave thanks, and worshiped. Their honesty did not disqualify them from relationship with God. Their humanity wasn’t an obstacle to their faith.

It was part of the relationship.

Perhaps the invitation isn’t to become better at appearing unbothered, but to become more willing to be known.

Not just by God, who already knows us, but by ourselves.

💛 Have you ever felt pressure to move past an emotion before you had the opportunity to process it?

Some things we’ve carried for so long that we’ve stopped asking whether they were ever ours to carry in the first place.

The responsibility. The expectations. The need to have it all figured out. The pressure to keep showing up as a version of ourselves we’ve already outgrown.

And sometimes, what we’ve learned to call strength is actually exhaustion we’ve become accustomed to.

But what if this season isn’t asking you to hold more? What if God is inviting you to notice what you’ve been holding and consider what you can finally put down?

Not everything needs to be resolved before it can be released. And not everything that helped you survive a previous season is meant to accompany you into the next one.

So here’s an invitation: Before you decide what to let go of, notice what happens inside you when you even consider it. Does your body soften? Do you feel resistance? Fear? Relief? Maybe a little of everything?

There’s no need to rush past any of it. Even the resistance has something to tell us.

💛 What have you been carrying that you might be ready to put down?

Exhale. God’s got you.

Somewhere along the way, many of us learned that being strong meant being able to endure, keep going, and hold everything together.

We learned how to be productive while overwhelmed, show up while exhausted, and smile while struggling.

And sometimes, we even spiritualized that disconnection.

But what if wholeness requires a different kind of strength?

One that makes room for vulnerability, honors our limitations, and recognizes that faithfulness doesn’t require us to neglect ourselves.

There is wisdom in slowing down long enough to recognize our patterns. There is growth in learning the difference between what we’ve been conditioned to tolerate and what actually supports our well-being.

And there is freedom in discovering that we can honor God without abandoning ourselves in the process.

This is part of the work of becoming whole. Not perfection. Not another thing to master. Just a more compassionate relationship with ourselves and the One who made us. 💛

What’s one thing you’re learning to unlearn about strength?

Am I using my faith to avoid my feelings?

Have you ever said, “God's got it,” but never really gave yourself space to acknowledge how you felt?

Sometimes we're so focused on being strong, trusting God, and moving forward that we unintentionally skip over what we're experiencing.

But here's something I've been sitting with: Faith and feelings can sit at the same table.

You can trust God and still be disappointed. You can have faith and still feel afraid. You can be grateful and still be grieving.

God doesn't need us to pretend.

This week, we're making room for emotional honesty, starting with my latest Substack article, Am I Using My Faith to Avoid My Feelings?

Read the full article through the link in my bio. 💛

Let's talk: Which of these signs feels most familiar to you?

Exhale. God's got you.

At this point, I think my Eagles are personally committed to making sure I have material for Regulated Football every week. 😭😂🦅

And apparently, I needed this week’s lesson just as much as anybody else.

One thing I love about this series is that I’m not teaching from some imaginary place where I’ve mastered every reaction. I’m right here practicing alongside y’all.

I still get excited. I still talk to the TV. I still question coaching decisions like somebody asked me to join the staff. 😂

And I don’t want to lose any of that!

What I am discovering is how much there is to learn about ourselves in the moments when we’re fully invested in something.

Football just happens to give us a whole lot of opportunities to practice. 🏈

So here’s to another Sunday of cheering, laughing, questioning the refs, and hopefully celebrating a WIN! 🙌🏾

And tomorrow, we’re reviewing the film. 🎥

Tell me, who are you rooting for today? And how much has your team tested you this season? 😂

Same game. A more regulated you.

Go Birds! 🦅

Sunday football is back, and so is another episode of Regulated Football! 🏈🟨

Now, after what my Eagles put me through last week, I think it’s only appropriate that we’re talking about RECOVERY today. 😭😂

I’m going into this week’s game hopeful, cautiously optimistic, and fully aware that my team may test every bit of what I’ve been practicing.

And I’m still going to enjoy myself. 😂🦅

But can we talk about the unexpected guest who decided to make her debut in this week’s reel?! 👀🐈

Everybody, meet Chicago, affectionately known as Chi! 💛

She apparently heard me recording and decided she had something to contribute to the conversation. 😂

There’s a whole story behind how this little girl became part of our family, and I’ll share more about her soon. For now, just know that she’s already making herself right at home.

And honestly, her timing couldn’t have been more fitting for this week’s conversation. 🥹💛

Anyway, back to football! 😂

Tell me, who’s your team playing today, and how are we feeling going into the game?

Same game. A more regulated you.

Go Birds! 🦅

Sometimes we say, “I need rest,” when what we really mean is…

My body is tired.
My mind is full.
My senses have had enough.
My emotions are heavy.
My spirit feels weary.
I’ve been giving more than I have room for.

And those things may not need the same kind of rest.

More sleep won’t always answer overstimulation. Quiet won’t always answer loneliness. A day off won’t automatically tend to what feels heavy in your spirit.

So before reaching for whatever you usually call rest, pause and ask:

“What kind of rest is my body asking for?”

Then choose from there.

Rest isn’t a reward for finally doing enough. It’s a practice of listening, responding, receiving, and making room.

Different season. Same God. Choose what meets you here. 💛 by @iamcandacekamille

Before Elijah receives another assignment, his exhausted body receives care.

Sleep.
Food.
Water.
Touch.
More rest.

I keep returning to that order.

Sometimes we keep demanding clarity from bodies that are asking for care. We call
ourselves unmotivated when we’re depleted. We keep thinking when what we may need first
is nourishment.

For this Lectio Divina, slow down with 1 Kings 19:5–8.

What changes when you consider that care might come before the answer? 🍂 by @iamcandacekamille

Sometimes we read Scripture looking for the answer, the lesson, or the thing we’re supposed to do next.

Lectio Divina invites us to slow down.

To read. Notice. Reflect. Respond. Rest.

And to pay attention to what happens in us along the way. What catches our attention? What feels comforting or difficult? What does our body notice? What part of us has questions? What might God be inviting us to receive?

You don’t have to rush Scripture to be changed by it.

Swipe through, save this for your next quiet moment, and then join me as we practice Lectio Divina together throughout October.

Read slowly. Notice deeply. Respond honestly. Rest with God. 💛 by @iamcandacekamille

Before you ask yourself to calm down, focus harder, push through, or get it together, try noticing where you actually are.

Wired. Heavy. Scattered. Guarded. Settled.

None of these are failures. They’re information.

The question isn’t, “How do I make this feeling go away?”

Try, “What might help my body feel a little more supported right now?”

Regulation isn’t about being calm all the time. It’s growing our capacity to notice, respond, and return. 💛 by @iamcandacekamille

Sometimes rest doesn’t begin with sleep. Sometimes it begins with noticing what your body, your thoughts, your protective parts, and your spirit are still carrying.

This carousel walks you through a few ways to come back to the present, soften what’s been holding, and remember that you do not have to carry the whole day into the night.

The full 12 Minute Bedtime Meditation for Unwinding After a Long Day is on Substack.
