POSTS STORIES REELS

This felt like the right time to re-introduce myself 🤍

I’m Gemma. I’m a mum of two little boys, a nurse at heart, and someone who’s had to learn (sometimes the hard way) how important mental health really is. Motherhood completely changed me — not just in the obvious ways, but in how I see time, work, and what I actually want my life to feel like.

I’ve spent years in a career where you give everything to everyone else, while quietly pushing your own needs to the side. Add health anxiety into the mix and it can feel like you’re constantly running on empty, even on the “good” days.

Becoming a mum made me realise I couldn’t keep living at a pace that didn’t feel safe or sustainable for me anymore. I wanted more presence. More flexibility. More space to breathe. Not a perfect life — just one that felt calmer and more aligned.

I don’t have it all figured out, and I’m not pretending to. I’m just sharing this season honestly, as I build a life that works better for me and my family.

If you’re a mum, a nurse, or someone quietly navigating anxiety, I see you. You’re not alone — and you’re very welcome here 🤍

This is my why.

Becoming a mum changed everything.
Not just my priorities, but who I wanted to become.

My boys are my reason for wanting more time, more presence, and a life that feels aligned with the values I want to pass on to them. I want them to grow up knowing that anything is possible when you put your mind to it, even when things feel hard or uncertain.

But if I’m being honest…
This journey isn’t only about them.

After stepping away from nursing, I realised I’d lost a part of myself along the way. My confidence wasn’t what it used to be, and I knew I needed something that helped me rebuild, something that allowed me to grow again, not just survive.

I’m building a life that lets me show up fully.
For my family.
And for me.

Because being the best mum I can be also means being the best version of myself 🤍 by @iamgemmawakefield

This is the bit that gets loud sometimes

The doubt. The what ifs. The wondering if I’ve made the wrong call choosing a path nobody else really understands
Some days it’s barely a whisper. Other days it’s all I can hear

But I remember why I started. And I keep going anyway

You don’t need everyone to understand your path for it to be the right one. You just need to believe it’s yours to walk

Still figuring it out. Still choosing it, on purpose, every day ❤️ by @iamgemmawakefield

Nobody warned me about this bit

The bit where you’re mid laugh at something silly they’ve said, and it hits you out of nowhere how much they’ve changed since last year

Same cheeky grin. Just less of the baby in it now

I don’t think anyone prepares you for how fast this part goes. One minute they need you for everything, the next they’re racing off to the next game without a second thought

I’m trying to hold onto nights like this a bit tighter lately. Bowling, arcades, nothing special really. Except it was ❤️ by @iamgemmawakefield

Change rarely feels like change while you’re in it

Most days it just feels uncomfortable, unsettling, a bit like you don’t recognise where you are anymore. You question yourself more than usual. You wonder if you’re doing it right, or if you’re doing too much, or not enough

Nobody really warns you that growth feels like this. It’s not exciting most of the time. It’s just quietly hard, in a way that’s difficult to explain to anyone who isn’t in it with you

It’s only looking back that you realise how far you’ve actually come. All those uncomfortable days add up to something, even when it doesn’t feel like it at the time

If today feels hard, that discomfort might just be growth in disguise by @iamgemmawakefield

Adding this one to our summer holiday days out list

We visited Over Farm near Gloucester last year and the boys absolutely loved it.
There’s an animal trail with llamas, pigs and all sorts of friendly faces, tractor rides out around the farm, a quad train that had them properly buzzing, jumping pillows that they didn’t want to get off, sandpits to dig about in, and a mini golf course thrown in too. We even got to try our hand at strawberry picking while we were there

It’s the kind of place where you can just let them run and explore without needing to plan every minute of the day.
There was plenty to keep them busy for a good few hours and we didn’t feel rushed at any point

There’s a cafe on site at the farm shop if you fancy making a morning of it, plus free parking which always makes life easier when you’re juggling little ones and a car full of stuff

Saving this one for anyone planning summer days out nearby, it’s such a lovely spot for little ones and one we’ll definitely be going back to 🐖 🐐 🐓 by @iamgemmawakefield

Nobody tells you the leaving happens quietly

There was no big moment. No single shift that broke me. It was more like a slow realising, over months, that I was giving everything I had to a job I still believed in, and coming home with nothing left for the people I loved most
I used to think if I just pushed through it would get easier. It didn’t. It just became normal to feel that tired

I don’t think I ever stopped caring about the job. I think I just stopped being able to carry the life it asked of me

So a few years ago I started looking for something different. Not instead of caring. Just alongside having something left over for myself and my boys

Still figuring it out. Still building it slowly. But for the first time in a long time it feels like mine by @iamgemmawakefield

That’s it really. That’s the whole reason.

Not for the income, not for the title, not for any of it. For them. For the version of me they get to witness. For the conversations we’ll have one day when they’re older and they ask me about this chapter.

I want to be able to look them both in the eye and say I went for it. Even when it was hard. Even when I wasn’t sure. Even when nobody else understood why.

Because the greatest thing I can give my boys isn’t a perfect life. It’s a mother who showed them what it looks like to back yourself. by @iamgemmawakefield

You.

Yes you, the one who second guesses every decision she makes. The one who says sorry too much. The one who talks herself out of things before she’s even tried them. The one who watches other people do the things she wants to do and tells herself they must just be braver or more ready or more qualified somehow.

They’re not.

They just stopped waiting until they felt ready. Because that feeling never comes, not really. Confidence isn’t something you find before you start. It’s something you build by starting anyway.
You already have everything you need.

You’ve always had it.

The only thing standing between you and the version of your life you actually want is the story you keep telling yourself about why it’s not possible for someone like you.

It is possible. Especially for someone like you 🤍 by @iamgemmawakefield

You weren’t too much. You were just in the wrong room.

Too ambitious. Too sensitive. Too driven. Too emotional. Too loud. Too quiet.

At some point most of us have been handed a version of ourselves that someone else decided was more acceptable. And a lot of us spent years carrying that around like it was true.
It isn’t.

The women who have been told they’re too much are usually the ones who feel everything deeply, who care too much about the right things, who refuse to just settle even when settling would be easier.

That’s not a flaw. That’s a strength that hasn’t found the right space yet.
Stop shrinking. Stop apologising for taking up space. Stop waiting until you feel ready or worthy or less of whatever they told you you were too much of.

You were never the problem. by @iamgemmawakefield

Otto’s first ever sports day today and honestly where has the time gone.
It feels like five minutes ago we were doing the first day of school photo at the gate, that little face, that tiny bag, absolutely no idea what was ahead of him.

And now look at him.

He took part in everything today, gave it his all and just got on with it.
I was sat on the sidelines just so proud I didn’t really know what to do with myself if I’m honest.

And then his friends from different years started chanting his name and I was done. Absolutely done. That’s the bit that got me more than anything, knowing he’s got that around him, that people are rooting for him.

These are the days I genuinely want to bottle up and keep forever.

He has absolutely no idea how much moments like this mean to me, watching him just go for things and enjoy every second of it.

That’s all you ever want for them isn’t it.
Just keep going baby boy, we are so proud of you, always. 🥹 by @iamgemmawakefield
