Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone.

While yesterday was Valentine’s Day, and while today may just look like another ordinary day on the calendar, for us, love has never been confined to a date. Valentine’s Day is not the standard of love. It is simply another opportunity to celebrate what should already be present. Love is not proven in one grand gesture once a year. Love is proven in the quiet consistency. In the random flowers. In the weekly intentionality. In the small moments no one else sees. I buy my wife flowers every chance I get. I do sweet things for her every week. I am intentional about the way I love her on the 365 days of the year, including today. Not because a holiday tells me to, but because love, real love, demands presence.

But it is also not enough to say you love someone every day and ignore the beauty of celebrating them when the world pauses to recognize love. Both matter. The consistency and the celebration. The everyday and the intentional moments set aside to say, again and again, “I choose you.” God joined us together in the middle of some of the heaviest seasons of my life. Seasons where I did not have answers. Seasons where I did not have strength. And she became the person I leaned into. Not to fix me, but to love me through it. And there is something sacred about being loved through the process, not just celebrated at the destination.

Our love is laughter.
Our love is pain.
Our love is free.
Our love is calm.
Our love is patient.
Our love is kind.
Our love is pure.
Our love is overwhelming.
Our love is good conversation.
Our love is tough conversations.
Our love is funny.
Our love is.

Our love is real.

It is imperfect. It is growing. It is learning. It is healing. It is evolving. And at the end of the day, it is ours.

We were not randomly placed in each other’s lives. We were joined. Intentionally. Purposefully. By God Himself.

So yes, we celebrate Valentine’s Day. But more than that, we celebrate love. The everyday love. The consistent love. The patient love. The enduring love.
