From Kilifornia With Love 💚

What a year it has been!

On a personal front this year has been filled with beautiful highs and some hard lows but I made it through by continuing to be gentle with myself, I loved getting to be present as Uncle Jess twice in the one year, cooking for my beautiful communities in Jozi and Nairobi, DJing & Dancing in some of my favourite places, reading great books & seeing amazing artwork and live music!

From a work perspective the year holds many highs:
- two brilliant LP drops @blinkybillmusic & @aronandthejerijeriband take your flowers 🌺
- another amazing diverse programme at @mtnbushfire (a must music festival experience on the continent 🌍)
- book ending the year with @blinkybillmusic giving Nairobi two of its best shows of the year,
- Sikelela truly was a beautiful year one edition, we’ll be back next year @thedig_za @hymn_self
- 5th year running of @modziarts at Art Joburg and
- a couple of albums to drop in the new year from mano 1luv aka @sibusilexaba 💛
- seeing more beautiful humans support @jaber.na.jewellery 🤍
- DJing MainStage at @mtnbushfire before King Tha to over 20,000 people, DJing the longest running full moon party in Africa, shutting down the opening night of ACCES in Rwanda, playing a Sengeli set at @af_dar to close the inaugural Sengeli Music Conference 🩰
- launching “Brunch Beats Busara” at @theboxbyashleymaybe for @sautizabusara alongside @altaer @santuri_east_africa @arafa.builds @chi.temu @nodiggity_za @kkaybie @mokeyanju @ashley.maybe 💚

My first wish for the new year is the governments of Kenya and Mozambique to listen to your youth, who are fighting with their lives to end your corruption and violence, Ruto Must Go, Frelimo Must Go! For peace to prevail and an end to colonial imperialism, genocide and exploitation in Palestine 🍉, Sudan, Congo, Haiti and other oppressed nations. Let’s continue boycotting companies and humans who support genocide.

May the next 12 months be filled with gentleness, intention and warmth, creating safe spaces, travelling to new places, making that bread with people who respect your value and time, eating healthy, exercising, communicating feelings, saying no, fighting for a free Palestine, Congo and Sudan, fighting racism, patriarchy and misogyny, breaking gender norms, respecting animals and the environment, collecting more fly neckpieces & rings, having great sex with people who deserve us, and spoiling oneself with self love.

Whenever I’d get home to Jozi from Nairobi 🇰🇪 @mariamccloy would always ask to see the new rings and neckpieces I brought back, be it brunch with mimosas or at a show.

My dear friend, was such an advocate for us all to follow our dreams and to look stylish while doing it, without @mariamccloy support I’m not sure @jaber.na.jewellery would’ve started.

I miss you dearly, your beloved Jozi is not the same without you 💛🍉
