It isn't lost on me how often I hear Patrick Stewart's voice in my head. As much as I adore Star Trek and Captain Jean-Luc Picard, his role as Charles Xavier spoke to me in a foundational way.

I turned 7 year's old in 2000 when "X-Men" was released. Sure, I was obsessed with Cyclops and Wolverine, but seeing Stewart and Ian McKellen bring elegance, class, and intensity to Xavier and Magneto affected me deeply, even as a child. That first moment of the pair speaking to one another in the Senate house... it gave me chills then and still does now.

I cried like a baby when Xavier "died" in "X-Men: The Last Stand" and cheered when he returned in "Days of Future Past". But those early films remain on my heart. "Avengers: Doomsday" will hit so hard now... But I'm grateful for the decades of memories in my life thanks to Stewart... He remains so powerful.

I got a big book today! DC Showcase no. 79 (1968) - the first appearance of Dolphin. It's a gorgeous, vibrant cover for one of my favorite (and vastly underrated) DC characters.

I was first introduced to Dolphin during Aquaman's Rebirth run and fell in love with her. I've been patiently waiting to find a higher grade copy of this, and couldn't be more thrilled to add this wonderful Silver Age book to my collection.

"Halloween II" (1981) - The newest fine art poster in my collection. It arrived Monday-- just after my Scarefest Weekend trip with the "Halloween II" reunion. It's a bummer. I was praying to have this poster in time for the convention; still, I'm thrilled to have this beautiful piece just in time for Halloween. By Matt Ryan Tobin (@mattryan).

I was thrilled to finally meet the lovely Nancy Stephens who played Nurse Marion Chambers in "Halloween" (1978), "Halloween II" (1981), "Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later" (1998), and "Halloween Kills" (2021). She was a delight-- charming, funny, and a great storyteller.

I haven't experienced a film like "Possession" (1981) in quite some time. Truly, I lack the words to properly describe the feelings I have after finishing this masterpiece of masterpieces. Haunting unlike anything I have ever seen. Devastating. Surreal. Ethereal. Beautiful.

Andrzej Żuławski took the personal pain of his own divorce and crafted a horror tale to project all of that raw emotion as gut-wrenchingly as possible.

Isabelle Adjani gives, perhaps, the single greatest acting performance I have ever experienced. Sheer emotion of the unhinged kind like you've never seen. She's beauty. She's terrifying. She's a supernatural force of nature. I've never seen anything like it.

Sam Neill is a mirror of us. Experiencing the most distraught horrors of separation and mistrust, and leading to those dark places you think you'd never reach.

I've often said I'll die on the hill that 1981 is the single greatest year of horror movies of all. After seeing "Possession" today, there is no argument otherwise. What an unapologetically beautiful piece of art. A triumph.

It was an honor and privilege to meet Dean Cundey at Scarefest Weekend. Dean is a legendary cinematographer, working on such films as Halloween (1978), Escape from New York (1981), The Thing (1982), the Back to the Future trilogy (1985-1990), Big Trouble in Little China (1986), Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988), Hook (1991), Jurassic Park (1993), Apollo 13 (1995), and more. I added his autograph to my "Halloween" poster. He was so kind. by @ian_thewolfman

Some recent 4K pickups. A few classic favorites as well as some new bangers. Del Toro's "Frankenstein" from Criterion is unreal. Long live physical media!!!

Had an awesome Frank Henenlotter double-feature today. "Basket Case" (1982) and "Frankenhooker" (1990). Absolute low-budget trash in the best possible way. Horror doesn't always have to take itself seriously, and I had a blast watching these two cult classics on 4K. October is moving right along, and I'm trying to cram as much horror into it as possible.
