Fire risk is not just about fire itself—it’s about how land is managed and how people work together to prevent it. In West Kalimantan, hotspots used to appear year after year around neighboring villages, affecting the environment and local livelihoods

Today, that story is starting to shift. Through a collaborative effort supported by Bumitama and IDH, fire mitigation combines technology, regular training, and strong community involvement. Near-real-time hotspot alerts, ground patrols, and community-led fire awareness groups help villages respond faster and prevent fires before they spread

The results speak for themselves. Hotspots have decreased, awareness has increased, and communities are playing a more active role in protecting their land—showing that effective fire prevention works best when everyone moves forward together by @idhtrade

As dry seasons grow longer, the risk of forest, land, and plantation fires can surface at any moment. That’s why Bumitama and IDH focus on early prevention—strengthening patrols, training communities, and ensuring that vulnerable areas can be monitored more quickly

On the ground, this collaboration has made preparedness a shared culture. Field teams and local communities work toward one goal: stopping fires before they become disasters

Strong protection begins with vigilance, collaboration, and a commitment to keeping this landscape alive

In many rural communities, palm oil farmers still face a long list of challenges—low yields, unclear land legality, and farming practices passed down through habit rather than proper guidance. Many of them have felt like they’re navigating these challenges on their own

That’s where the Klinik Berdaya Sawit steps in. It has become a place to learn, ask questions, and build confidence. Day by day, our team works on the ground—sharing better agricultural practices, mapping farmers land for a more secure future, and supporting them through the process of securing legal documentation

Over the past year, we’ve watched real change begin to take root: brighter smiles, growing confidence, and farms that are slowly but surely improving. Change doesn’t happen overnight, but every small step moves these farmers toward a more empowered future🌿✨ by @idhtrade

The Klinik Berdaya Sawit provides a space for farmers to strengthen their skills while also receiving guidance on important administrative needs like the STDB (Surat Tanda Daftar Budidaya)

With support from Bumitama and IDH, a process that once felt complicated is now clearer, more accessible, and easier to navigate. Here, farmers gain more than technical knowledge—they also build the legal foundations needed to access more transparent and sustainable supply chains. Small steps with meaningful impact. Because real empowerment happens when we grow together

Previously, many village families relied solely on their oil palm plantations—left without income during the long replanting period. Today, through Sekolah Desa Berdaya, communities in Ketapang are opening new opportunities

From monthly trainings that help boost income to supporting small businesses in obtaining certifications, expanding their market reach to modern retail, and accessing financial support—we’re building stronger and more sustainable livelihoods together🌱✨ by @idhtrade

Change doesn’t always arrive with noise or grand gestures. Often, it begins quietly—through small steps and simple spaces where people can learn from one another, exchange experiences, and grow with confidence

Through Sekolah Desa Berdaya, Bumitama and IDH help create an environment where community members can recognize their potential, strengthen their skills, and start shaping a more sustainable future. Meaningful change often begins in modest settings—and here, its impact is already taking shape📚✨

🔥 Last week was the hottest 2nd July on record in the Netherlands, the hottest day of 2025¹ in the UK, and Southern Spain had the hottest June² temperature in history last Saturday at 46°C.

Chinese authorities issued their second-highest heat warning² for Beijing on one of its hottest days of the year so far, and a heatwave is on its way to Northern Vietnam³ with temperatures expected up to 42°C. 🌡️

By contrast, in the southern hemisphere winter, June finished with an unusual and record-breaking cold spell in Argentina, Chile, and Paraguay.⁴ ❄️

Dramatic changes to weather patterns like this have a severe impact on farms and farmers. 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗿𝘂𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗿𝗮𝘄 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀 including coffee, cocoa, and cotton. As we gather for @ldnclimateweek, one thing is clear: systemic, climate-resilient solutions are more urgent than ever.

Smallholder farmers grow a third of the world’s food🌾—but many still live on less than $2.15 a day.

💰At IDH, we believe this must change. In 2024, we worked with partners to close living income gaps by testing and refining innovative approaches to increase incomes for smallholder farmers. 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗮 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲, 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁.
🔗🌍Here’s some highlights of the progress made with our partners in 2024:

• We supported companies with 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮-𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲—like the Income Driver Calculator and Inclusive Business Analysis—to help close living income gaps.
• Through the IDH Farmfit Fund, we helped 𝘂𝗻𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 for cocoa farmers in Côte d’Ivoire, enabling 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 and investment in alternative crop value chains.
• In the coffee sector, we supported farmers in Kenya and Uganda to 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀—and explored fairer economic models of value distribution.

These efforts are laying the groundwork for scalable, long-term solutions that put better incomes at the center of agricultural value chains.
