For HAWAII-HARDCORE & HAWAIIAN-CULTURE: I had the unique opportunity to be Interviewed recently by @musicquizking of the LEGENDARY site @noechodotnet This interview is DEEP & we cover Ikaika’s tragic beginnings, unique message, Hawaii’s HC scene, & perhaps even drop some BREAKING-NEWS on something EPIC we’re cooking up with @knivesoutrecords FURTHERMORE: There are STILL currently many areas in the Arts that lack a strong modern Native Hawaiian presence & voice, ESP in music! Hardcore, while very much still a rather obscure genre of heavy-music is my personal artistic outlet, passion & focus to correct such narrative! I CHALLENGE my fellow Kanaka’s to use your unique talents & start representing your cultures voice more, so that our cultures flame does not further extinguish from the past trauma! Read the full Interview (link in my bio) & SHARE THIS if you’ve got love for our scene & culture! 🫡- @gkaika_sp by @ikaikahc
“AMERICAN BY FORCE”—OUT NOW! This isn’t just a song. This is history that was never taught! Hawaiʻi was stolen. Our language/ customs banned. Our cultural identity nearly erased! I wrote this song because my Culture’s story NEEDS to be heard & the whitewashed fucking narrative (commonly taught) ERASED! This is what over a centuries worth of silenced pain sounds like! LISTEN FIRST (links in bio)! Then tell me what you felt below in the comments?- @gkaika_sp 🫡 *PLEASE SHARE! 🌋- IKAIKA🐗OHANA-🌋 by @ikaikahc
FULL INTERVIEW OUT 11.6.26 I like to ask the question “describe ___ in three words” because it makes the right people sit back and think hard. It’s important to take a step back sometimes and reflect. GAVIN @gkaika_sp — of Maui based hxc band IKAIKA @ikaikahc — proudly represented what he loves in these three words : resilient, loud, and tight knit. In a place like Hawai’i it can be hard to stay consistent with the unique way of life, differing cultures, and politics. What Gavin prides himself and his culture/scene in is how it perpetuates itself even through the ebbs. It’s the coverage though, and the undying love for the scene by people like @bbj8o8 , @erikoseto and everyone with @lokahi_booking @hawaiihardcore who are or have given it their all to keep spaces and communities like this alive. Community. There would be nothing without it. #hawaiihxc #808scene #explore #journalism #hxc by @ikaikahc
This week Gavin @gkaika_sp from Maui based hardcore band IKAIKA @ikaikahc sat down with our lady in charge @raindancemaggi3 to sit back, relax, and just let it all out. There’s not a lot of places to do that comfortably nowadays. But for Gavin and those apart of the hardcore community the pit is their safe space. The attributing goodness that stems from this music and the people involved in these hardcore scenes across the globe goes much deeper than you may think. Next week Gavin flies into Honolulu from Maui for a show at @3rdspacehonolulu alongside other great talent. Stay tuned for our full interview next week… #hardcore #hawaii #ikaika #journalism #strength by @ikaikahc
OAHU! 11/6. PREPARE FOR WAR!!! WHO’s gonna be in the pit??? by @ikaikahc
Most people see chaos. I see therapy! To me, Hardcore music is a place where all the bullshit, weight, and stresses of everyday life can collectively be left on the floor. It’s been my safe-space for the last 20+ years. For some of us, the loudest places bring the most peace. Where do YOU find yours? Getting the opportunity to relive your hardcore glory days at 42 after accepting that chapter of your life was over, is the RADDEST shit ever! Then having the privilege to inspire and uplift a whole new generation of hc kids back on your home turf through the music you love? FUCKING PRICELESS! TAKEAWAY: DO WHAT YOU LOVE, age is just a number & leave your scene (or artistic medium) a little better than you came into it! More to come on last weekends show…🥷 by @ikaikahc
