The brush back and low taper combo is a guaranteed classic & clean, confident, and impossible to overlook. For this cut, I kept the length on top to build natural volume and movement, then brushed it back into a smooth, controlled flow. The low taper stays tight and subtle around the sides and neckline, creating a sharp finish without taking away from the fullness up top. Polished, versatile, and built to look good from every angle. I used my @sharkfinshears Damascus shears to carve seamless layers, add soft texture, and keep the finish clean and effortless. Looking to elevate your shear work? SWIPE FOR A STEP-BY-STEP BREAKDOWN OF THIS BRUSHBACK! ✂️ Here’s a closer look at the techniques I used and, more importantly, WHY I used them. 1. Building the foundation: Using my @sharkfinshears Damascus shears, I started with diagonal-back sections, overdirecting each panel to the previous one to build weight. As I approached the nape, I adjusted my elevation while preserving length for that natural flow. 2. Creating the shape: Using a profile guide, I established my desired length at the apex. My goal was to create a square shape on top, building weight toward the corners for a stronger silhouette. 3. Connecting the top and sides: I isolated the fringe using a delta section to avoid overcutting. From there, I used diagonal-back sections with square elevation to connect everything. Once I released the fringe, I overdirected it backward to preserve enough length to cover the recession areas. 4. Preparing for texture: I prefer doing most of my texturizing on dry hair so I can see how it naturally falls and moves. I applied a little @stmntgrooming Grooming Spray before blow-drying for lightweight control without sacrificing movement. 5. Adding movement: Once dry, I used deep point cutting with my Shark Fin 15-tooth texture shears to remove internal weight and create movement. I finished with slide cutting using my Shark Fin Erasers to soften and remove excess weight around the nape. Remember, it’s not just about knowing HOW to cut hair. Understanding WHY you’re using each technique is what helps you become a more intentional barber. ✂️ TOOLS OF THE TRADE: For this haircut, I used my Shark Fin Damascus shears, 15-tooth texture shears, and Erasers. ✂️ Texture is all about movement, control, and the right tools. 🔥 For this textured fringe with a clean, shaped neckline, I reached for my @SharkFinShears setup from start to finish. ✂️ The smoked-out all-black 5.5” swivel shears were perfect for point cutting the sides and back, creating natural movement and enhancing the texture. 🦈 I finished with the 15-tooth chunkers to remove weight and carve in deeper texture without sacrificing the shape. The right technique paired with the right tools makes all the difference. 💯 Ready for a fresh cut?
