Before I get the day started, 2026

This woman is prepping for the day by reading her Bible before the house wakes up. The kitchen is where her morning quiet time takes place.

I purposely left labels off the cereal boxes on top of the refrigerator. Can you guess what cereals they have?👀

I’ll Love You Always, 2026

If I had a son or daughter, this is how I would be🥹. In the kitchen, they express the untouchable love and bond on her birthday.

Mother’s the First Teacher, 2026

I’ve been stuck on a kitchen series as it relates to how some women function in the space. All of the drawings I’ve done lately carry some piece of nostalgia for me. Cooking and baking are memorable elements to my upbringing. Doing both of these in the kitchen is distinctive because it’s where history, math, art, and science marry each other.

Dear Mother Figure, 2026

Do you have or remember your singing mother, auntie, grandmother, etc in the kitchen? The kitchen is the place where nourishment, craftiness, praises, teachings, blessings and warmth take root. As for the women in my life, the kitchen is a sanctuary. The kitchen is an anchor for both them and us.

Something as sacred as baking with your grandmother is irreplaceable. It’s such an endearing experience. I used alcohol marker and colored pencil for this one. I hope this piece makes you feel warm and fuzzy if you had this experience. Dm me if you’re interested in this piece🫶🏽.

Woman’s Heartbeat, 2026

This piece is an abstract painting with gems that form a heartbeat, specifically a woman’s. The gems anchor the painting similar to a woman being an anchor to life.

This is for sale. Dm me if you’re interested 🙏🏽

My birthday yesterday was so full. I truly enjoyed every bit. Hubby made sure I was taken care of all the way 😍. Thank you so much for all the kind birthday wishes. It made my day even more special 🫶🏽 by @imanitheartist_

Grandma, mixed media, 2026

I drew my grandma in graphite for Mother’s Day. I threw in some cut up artificial flowers and painted her favorite color on her💕

Resistance.

I cannot tell you how many days I push my art to the side because I get caught up in life’s responsibilities/setbacks, and then get mad at myself for not dedicating the time to do it. Art has been a part of my life for sooo long and it’s so funny that the very thing that feeds you and puts you at peace, can be the very thing you suppress for later. Then later becomes even later. I thought I was tweaking out because I love art DEARLY, but would pause doing it at times. It’s wild. Turns out, it’s resistance and it’s a mental battle I fight more often than I’d like to admit. The resistance is happening because it’s something I NEED to do. It’s a part of my purpose here. It sometimes feels like an invisible force I’m battling with in spite of it being something I love. Creating literally saves me and my mind.

I realize I have to practice, daily, shifting my mindset. I have to give myself permission to do this and prioritize my wellbeing in continuing to practice my art. The War of Art book was a mirror into the battle I face, and how to combat that. It felt good to realize that I’m not the only one that feels this way. If you haven’t read it, it’s soooooo good. Big thanks to my classmate that recommended it.

Spiraled Pot is done! This is graphite, marker, and colored pencil. I wanted the model to have a striking appearance and I wanted her wear the pot, instead of the pot “wearing” her.

I forgot to post my last ceramics project. I created a functional object that doubles as an art piece. Bundt cakes are an important ritual in my family. I grew up with them and every once in a while, bake them myself.

I haven’t touched watercolor in YEARSS. Probably over 2 decades😭. I tried it today again and I’m definitely about to do some work with it 🫟
