📍 On 15–16 October, we welcomed 12 PhD and early postdoctoral researchers to IMIS at Osnabrück University for the second SFB–FFVT PhD & Postdoc Colloquium. The participants were selected from more than 50 applications. The colloquium was organised as a collaboration between SFB 1604 “Production of Migration” and the FFVT project (Flucht- und Flüchtlingsforschung: Vernetzung und Transfer / Forced Migration and Refugee Studies: Networking and Knowledge Transfer). It was organised by Prof. Dr. Christine Lang (SFB 1604) and Dr. Franck Düvell (FFVT). 🌍 As in the previous colloquium, participants came from a range of universities, mainly in Germany, with participants originating from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Germany, Indonesia, Kenya, Switzerland, Syria, and Turkey. Several also brought professional experience from organisations such as ICMPD, GIZ, Diakonie, and Alarm Phone. The colloquium explored a wide range of topics, from migration governance in Ghana and the experiences of refugee children in Kenyan schools to political participation, climate risk perceptions, deportation monitoring, and asylum procedures in Germany. 🎤 The programme featured a keynote by Prof. Dr. Karin Scherschel (Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt) entitled “Migration, Racism and the Role of Citizenship: Theoretical and Empirical Reflections,” which connected with many of the themes discussed throughout the colloquium. 🔎 A key part of the programme was a reflexivity workshop led by Dr. Nandita Dutta from the SFB’s Reflexivity Lab. Through the development of ad hoc project proposals, participants reflected on positionality, epistemology, methodology, and the politics of knowledge production. 💬 Two days of inspiring presentations, critical reflection, and exchange across disciplines and professional contexts. A big thank you to all participants and contributors for making this colloquium such a stimulating space for migration research! 📷 Christine Lang More about SFB1604: producingmigration.org More about FFVT: ffvt.net #SFB1604 #FFVT #MigrationStudies #KnowledgeProduction #Reflexivity by @imisosnabrueck
Ein herzliches Dankeschön an das Organisationsteam!☘️ Lectures, workshops, poster sessions, panel moderation: numerous researchers from IMIS and the Collaborative Research Centre “Production of Migration” (SFB 1604) actively contributed to the various formats at this year’s DeZIM Conference.
