AVAILABLE|Claude LeSerge a French convict from the 1930s. Claude fought in the Great War. He was only 17 when drafted. After witnessing the horrors of the battle of Verdun and seeing his friends die in the trenches he became a Marxist ideologue. He was thrown in prison for organizing with local socialist collectives and newspapers. After being imprisoned so many times he was finally sent away to the infamous French penal colony in Guayana “Ile Du Diable” or Devil’s Island. There he would be subjected to horrors beyond the imagination. Beatings, stabbing, starvation, malaria. When he finally came home he was an entirely changed man and began making his money however he could. He ran gambling operations, robbed shipping trucks, debt collections. His tattoos mark the life of a troubled and hardened man. The most prominent ones on his chest denote a life of sadness. A lost love, and above her roses with the quote “Tout Me Fait Rire” or “Everything makes me laugh” and below that “Pas D’ami”, no friends. On his back we see a portrait of a fallen comrade from the Great War is faded out, representing a past life and innocence gone. This is entirely fictional. Feel free to examine his tattoos. This piece is for sale. by @immortalwoods_

Here is a recent mini old timey ball player I carved for my old vintage league baseball team @bisbeeblacksox . Playing in the Arizona vi rage baseball league was a blast. Always rooting for the Sox. They got to the title again this year only to lose to the Mesa Miners. They did beat Higley though. 😎 #baseball #vintagebaseball #arizona #woodcarving #woodcarver by @immortalwoods_
Some more angles of Pistol Pete. by @immortalwoods_
(Available piece) Cool Papa Bell, a legend who if you follow baseball history, sure you’ve heard of. Most people don’t watch baseball though. Papa was a Negro leagues legend and for 24 years he traveled the country and the continent looking for an opportunity to shine. Sadly due to the racist institution of Major League Baseball which according to Reggie Jackson, “Hasn’t changed all that much” he never got a shot at the bigs and was all but forgotten to history along with his teammate Josh Gibson and hundreds of others. Either way Papa was a star! He played all over Latin America in the off seasons and was the first player to have won the triple crown for the Vera Cruz Azules in 1940. He was inducted into the baseball HOF in 1974. This piece was really feckin hard to make and carved entirely with hand tools. In laymen terms that means I literally shaved every spec of wood off with carving knives. The hat was fine tuned with a rotary grinder. #baseball #woodcarver #woodartist #negroleagues #blackhistorymonth by @immortalwoods_

~Immortalized in Wood~ Sam Damon was the father of one of my best friends in my youth. He was also a friend of my dad and he and his wife Jamie frequented my dad’s cafe. Sam passed away two years ago and about a year ago my friend, his son Max, passed away unexpectedly as well. I didn’t know much about what happened until I ran into Sam’s wife Jamie a few weeks back. Jamie and I caught up for 2 hours after not having seen her in 15 years. She said she’d seen my carvings and told me that Sam was an avid collector of wood carvings and would write stories for each piece he found. When I found this out I knew exactly what I had to do for Jamie, Sam and Max. In this piece Sam is holding a wood carving of his boy Max. I surprised Jamie with it today. I thanked her for the inspiration as it had been 8 months since my last piece. #woodcarver #folkart #folkartist #woodartist #woodart by @immortalwoods_
A recent humpback I never posted. Carved out of a cedar tree I took down. Base illustrates the piece’s relationship to the tree. It reads, “When the whales fall silent, the ocean screams”. by @immortalwoods_
