I had the very cool and surreal experience of watching ICEMEN, a play I commissioned by Vern Thiessen @vern_thiessen , and directed the premiere of, presented by Theatre Burlington @theatreburlington this afternoon.

It was so cool to see a theatre outside of Simcoe County take on this story set in Barrie & and a play I helped to bring to life.

And boy oh boy is the story more relevant and urgent than ever!

Plus, how nice to run into, and experience, the show with Lesley Coo @coolesley and Brenda Thompson - two other members of the creative team! And, of course, with Marissa Caldwell @marissaisms who was part of the entire journey of the show's realization.

A very special moment. taken in Burlington, Ontario by @kingtheatrecompany

Give me your hands, if we be friends,
And Robin shall restore amends. ✨️🧚‍♂️

Fair chums, it is almost time to say goodbye - our closing show is this afternoon at 2PM!

Just a handful of tickets remain, and then this Dream will be put to rest.

Experience the magic yourself, and join us for one last romp through the woods with strange companions, foolish mortals, mischievous fairies, and dear friends.

With the preview of A Midsummer Night's Dream presented by @burrodtheatre tomorrow night, I thought I would share my Director's Note.

I hope to see you there!
https://www.burrodtheatre.ca/shows

Director's Note:

What a dream it has been to return to this wonderful play, in this gorgeous space, and with this brilliant team of old friends and new.

When we decided to bring back A Midsummer Night’s Dream after our groundbreaking 2018 production, I thought this would be a pretty straightforward beat-for-beat remount. But instead, we discovered whole new layers to the show, and so much more comedy, than we could have imagined. Partially, that is because I am older and more experienced, but genuinely, I believe it is because of the fresh impulses of the artists involved. Everyone bought in 100% to the vision of making this the silliest, funniest production of Midsummer I can remember, while maintaining the ‘scrappy’ mentality that makes Burro’d Theatre such a unique company in the local arts ecosystem. I hope you get as much joy out of it as we put into it.

And when I say this was a group project - holy moly do I mean it. I am so deeply indebted to everyone from Camphill, to the cast and crew, to the set build team, and, of course, to Marissa. This show is a testament to the power of community and how, when we support each other, magical things can happen.

Thank you thank you thank you. And thank you, the audience, for being here. taken in Camphill Communities Ontario by @kingtheatrecompany

Ask your theatre friends if seeing a play is right for you (they'll say yes). ✨️

In just under two weeks, we open @burrodtheatre 's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

It has been such a joy to revisit this wonderful piece with a sharpened refinement of what interests me and compells me as a director. And after five dramas in a row, getting to let out my silly side has been something my soul has desperately needed.

The result is the silliest but heartfelt, well-crafted but scrappy, outrageous but truthful comedy I have ever done. If you have liked my dramas, just wait until you see what I can do with comedy!

It has been, as they say, a dream.

And with such an incredible roster of comedic actors, the blessed Brenda Thompson as our designer, the masterful @coolesley as Stage Manager, and the marketing/producing genius of @marissaisms I feel so so lucky.

Do not miss this, folks. Link to tix in my bio!

Harley was SO GOOD at her first rehearsal for Midsummer Night's Dream with @burrodtheatre . And she got lots of lap-time with me, so it was a win-win for us both.

You have GOT to see this show, you guys. It is a hilarious, heartfelt, and SUPER SILLY ride.

After 5 dramas in a row, it is like my comedic soul is bursting with this one. I have pulled out all the stops.
