There are some losses that leave a silence in your home so enormous, you don’t know how to exist inside it.

We said goodbye to our Lord this week — The Mush, Mushie, Nugbug, Snuggie, and our beloved 20-pound sack of potatoes.

Lord truly believed he was royalty — and, in Breckenridge, a teacup Bernese Mountain Dog. Sweet, stubborn, hilarious, judgmental, and endlessly determined, he loved snow, adventures, snacks, car rides, and above all, wagyu beef.

He only gave kisses to those wearing great lip balm or lipstick — or to those he truly loved. His favorite place was snuggled against his dad Chris’s tummy, exactly where he believed he belonged.

When Lord became deaf, he learned every hand signal and continued trusting us completely. Even when his heart began having episodes, he remained happy and loving as long as his family was near.

He was deeply loved by his dad Chris, mom Amanda, “big brother” Baron, and our incredible Momma Megan, who co-parented him for all 11 years, along with a village of family and friends who spoiled and cherished him.

For people without human children, this grief can be hard to explain.

Lord wasn’t like our child.

He was our child.

The cruelest part of loving a dog is that their lifetime is only a chapter of ours, while we are their whole book.

Lord left us on my parents’ 54th wedding anniversary. My dad passed away earlier this year, and I find comfort in believing he came to get our baby.

I hope Lord looked up and saw Grandpa waiting with endless snow, chipmunks, wagyu beef, car rides, excellent lip balm, and a soft place to snuggle.

Thank you for choosing us, Mushie. Thank you for every adventure, snuggle, laugh, judgmental stare, and piece of your enormous heart.

There will never be another you.

Run, slide, chase everything, eat all the wagyu beef, snuggle Grandpa, and keep him company until we find you again.

Today our little boy passed on to the next life. He gave us all he had. Every bit of love and light was poured into this family and our life together. Thank you for the gifts you brought us. You were one of a kind. by @mrsanickerson

Happy Birthday to my amazing husband! 🥂❤️

What an incredible year it has been. It's crazy to think about all of the adventures we've shared. Our life is never boring and I wouldn't have it any other way.

You are the very best, and I feel so lucky to be by your side.The boys and I are so lucky to have you and now lake life. I can't wait to see what this next year has in store for you and for us. Whatever comes next, I know we'll make it another unforgettable adventure.

And just like that baby #2 turns 11 years old.... We can't believe our ball chasing, paw holding, and snuggle fur baby who also loves supervising is now the same age as his brother.

Now on to my second hotel room. Went from the best room on property to a mid room, and they said it was voluntary (because I asked to move to a room that had working air conditioning). Packing the house today and found so many crazy things I didn't realize I still had. What a wild and emotional rollercoaster.

For my friends that don't really know my old work life, this is a tub of shirts that I used to use to break into buildings across the world. **Yes, they paid me to break into places and sometimes it was REALLY helpful to wear a shirt that made it look like I was supposed to be there** by @mrsanickerson
