Tiniest Farmer.

We've loved her for 496 days. We can't even remember our life without her, and over the past few weeks we've avoided thinking about that possibility. Over sixteen months, we've watched her little body heal, settle, and learn that she is finally safe. We've held our breath as her case has stalled, roller-coasted, and smoothed out, bringing endless episodes of uneasiness. WEEKS of relentless stress and restless sleep over the thought of her not being with us, only to be suddenly surprised on a random Monday afternoon that her case is quickly moving forward with us as her pre-adoptive parents.

While we celebrate this moment, like all things in foster care, it breaks in the same breath for everyone involved.

How many cartons do you think we go through in a month?

When the cookie sheets come out, it’s a sure sign for everyone in this farmhouse to steer clear of me. It's my outlet to de-stress, and after surviving October at the farm, I'll need an entire Thanksgiving dinner prep to burn off this cortisol.

Bea loves to be held, waits for ice as soon as the espresso machine sounds, always lets Bonnie have the first bark, counter-surfs like she's taken training, and greatly dislikes having her face scratched. She couldn't be more like Clyde even if she tried 🤍

This year, let’s make sure no ballot gets left in the mailbox, forgotten on the kitchen counter, or tossed in the recycling. Do your part: research the candidates, vote, then drop your ballot directly in a ballot drop box.

If you’ve visited the farm recently, you may have noticed Heather Barker’s campaign sign at the farm’s entrance. This was a deliberate decision, and we hope you recognize the significance of sharing political content on this account.

Our family first met Heather Barker when our daughters began preschool together. Then the girls headed off to kindergarten, and have taken every opportunity to be teammates on the soccer field & basketball court. Foreman Farmer and I have spent many hours on the sidelines with Heather.

Many may not know that Heather has also served as our attorney for several years, supporting us through some of our most challenging times as homeowners and small business owners. Over the past five years, her intellect, drive, and compassion have been instrumental in helping us keep this farm and our sanity.
Heather Barker is a candidate for the Southeast Division judge of the King County District Court, Position 5, in the November 3, 2026 election. The Southeast Electoral District covers Algona, Auburn, Black Diamond, Covington, Enumclaw, Kent, Maple Valley, Pacific, Renton, plus nearby unincorporated areas. While some may see just another candidate, we have seen Heather as a dedicated local community member, a parent, and a person of integrity and dignity who is committed to making our community safer and stronger. District Court addresses cases that directly affect our southeast community at the local level, making participation in this election especially important.

As of yesterday, only 28.75% of ballots in the SE Division have been returned! That means 71.25% are still uncounted- get your ballot in!

Honestly, we didn’t think Tract-or-Treat would be a success this year. The weather app said Saturday would be gloomy. We had a historically small vendor pool compared to our other events, and background issues limited our marketing capacity. We just felt like it was going to be a dud. Turns out y’all proved us wrong, and y’all showed up dressed to impress in your costumes. The farm was absolutely crazy; by our best guess, we had a few thousand guests come to the farm in under four hours. We ran out of parking spots multiple times; Foreman Farmer got yelled at, people circled, and it was quite literally a zoo. Thank you to everyone who was patient enough to make a couple of loops until a spot or two opened up, and thank you to the others who respected the 60-minute rule and made room for the next family! If you stayed longer, we get it... we saw lots of humans crying when it was time to leave: both big & small :)

Events like this bring us the most joy. We love seeing families come out and have a good time. Foreman was giddy with glee to see how many families enjoyed the very, very rough-looking, budget-friendly, last-minute activities he “threw together with scrap.” I can’t with this guy; after my last post about his skill set, I think it got to his head. Glad y’all enjoyed the games, but we can’t keep stroking his ego; I personally can’t deal with it anymore.

The last free-to-attend event is Saturday, December 12th; mark your calendars. It will be magical; we’ll have Santa for DIY photo sessions, ornament making, face painting, and, of course, vendors to shop from. Invite some friends, make some memories, sip hot chocolate by the fire, and support local.

Please remind your kiddos to bring their Santa letter to hand to the man in red! (Make sure to get a picture copy for yourselves, as we can’t be trusted with transportation of these)

Peace, Love, Santa

Feisty
