Chicago is a place where you can find almost anything. And yet, up until 2022, the option for sourcing non-alcoholic beverages was limited.

That changed when Adriana Gaspar and Hector Diaz decided to open In Good Spirits, a spirit-free store which began as a pop-up. Today, the event space and retail store is the longest-running non-alcoholic store in the city.

“We went through some personal moments that led us here,” said Diaz, co-founder and partner to Gaspar. “But also our professional and our career backgrounds gave us the credentials to build this. I primarily worked in the beverage alcohol space for almost 10 years. I’ve been passionate about beverages for as long as I can remember.”

Gaspar had a similar career path working for marketing agencies that represented iconic alcohol brands.

The business started with pop-ups in 2022 and opened its brick-and-mortar store in July 2023. Since then, the alcohol-free shop has seen significant growth with Dry January being their top-performing month. The couple focuses on being a source for unique, small-batch non-alcoholic beers, wines, and functional beverages.

The store is divided up into five categories. When you walk in, on the right you have spirit alternatives and ready-to-drink mocktails. On the left there’s CBD and THC drinks, functional beverages (think adaptogens), and beer and wine—all alcohol-free or less than 0.5% in alcohol content.

⚡️ 𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙖 𝙣𝙤𝙣-𝙖𝙡𝙘 𝙗𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙜𝙚 — 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙬𝙝𝙮 𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙩 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝘼𝙁 𝙤𝙥𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨?
 It all started with our non-alcoholic bottle shop, @ingoodspirits.online ! That’s where Aire first began to take shape. Our inspiration to start In Good Spirits was driven by my co-founder Adriana, who went alcohol-free in 2020. Less than 2 years later, I was diagnosed with kidney cancer (currently in remission!) which led me to reassess health, wellness, & with that my own consumption of alcohol. I decided to join Adriana on the alcohol-free journey & together we launched In Good Spirits in 2022. When we started In Good Spirits, sobriety was less normalized, & we wanted to make space for socialization that did not center on alcohol. After being ingrained in the space, we wanted to launch our own offering! Alongside, our two other partners (Daniel & Ricky), we launched Aire this year with the goal to create a non-alc beverage that could stand beside the best-in-class, while offering our own unique perspective & shared Mexican heritage.

There’s so many mental & physical benefits! I personally discovered something new about myself: I don’t have to use alcohol as a social lubricant when going out. I don’t have to rely on alcohol to have a great time or night out.

We first introduced the idea of in good spirits nearly 4 years ago now, 2 years into Adriana’s sobriety journey, and only weeks after Hector’s cancer surgery. From the start, our mission has been to reimagine community and socialization, creating spaces where connection thrives without the presence of alcohol. The journey so far has been nothing short of amazing: all the people that have embraced this category with constant curiosity, all the gatherings we have hosted, the evolution of the non-alc space, and the amazing beverage brands that continue to impress both in visual design and taste.

Our affinity and respect for the beverage and cocktail world dates back to as far as we can remember, and with that, the desire to one day have the opportunity to create something to call ours.

Today, we have the pleasure to announce the launch of a beverage we’ve been working tirelessly for the last 18 months! Introducing: Aire - Mexican Sparkling Tonic. It’s a dream to create something that reflects us, our Mexican heritage and our love for the non-alc space. Inspired by familiar flavors, Aire arrives in Mango con Chile De Arbol and Hibiscus Con Limon, both infused with functional Mexican botanicals.

Aire is available now at in good spirits! To kick off the launch, we will also be hosting a soft launch parranda - details to come, save the date for January 31st. Please follow along @drinkaire.

This week we’re grateful for the people who have supported us on this journey, those who intentionally go out of their way to support a small business, the folks who mention our names in rooms full of opportunities. The amazing humans who continue to help make this dream a reality two plus years in. In Good Spirits would not be in existence without the people that choose to support us and choose to continue to support us on this journey. We have seen expecting parents return with newborns, people we met at our grand opening become friends, neighbors become collaborators. While there’s been no shortage of ebbs and flows during these past two years, we continue to give it all we got, and hope our doors will remain open for many years to come to welcome future connections in all forms. In celebration of two years of all things zero proof, we invite old friends and new friends to gather for an evening of tasty sips, snacks, and cozy sounds!

We recently hosted a zero-proof cocktail workshop at Google HQ in Chicago! Thank you to the amazing team at Google for having us as part of the Latino Heritage Month celebrations. And while yes Latinos small businesses should get support year round, in this current climate and roll back of DEI budgets, we are grateful for the opportunity and do not take it for granted! Planning for 40 attendees to craft three cocktails each is our biggest workshop to date, with loads of prep before, during, and after, but as our client said, we make it look seamless! Also amazing to hear their sign up sheet completely booked up within a day! Love to see folks showing so much interest and curiosity in the non-alc space and in good spirits! by @remezcla

Our hearts have felt so heavy with all that has been happening in the city of Chicago as it pertains to 🧊 Just this morning we were at home, getting ready to go to work with multiple helicopters flying overheard and police sirens nonstop. Another unprecedented event in our lifetimes. But as always, we all got each other’s back. In an effort to do our part, we are offering temporary free shelf space for street vendors being affected by the political climate. As a retail space, we’re happy to vend for the individual with all proceeds going to them and without them having to be present for their safety. If this is you or you know someone please get in touch.

Absolutely saddened by events that took place yesterday in our beautiful city of Chicago as it pertains to 🧊 In case it wasn’t obvious before hate has no home here 💙 We have 🆓 “know your right” cards available both inside and right outside our door.
