Today, Ambassador Nicola Brennan was proud to host the Embassy of Ireland's 🇮🇪 EU Presidency 🇪🇺 Event and Partners Day, bringing together diplomatic and development partners, as well as representatives from government and the private sector, to mark Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union and discuss the question: "What must we do differently to achieve Tanzania's #DIRA2050 🇹🇿?"

"During our Presidency, Ireland has championed discussions within the European Union on the future role of international development cooperation at a time of significant global change. In this environment, achieving Tanzania’s Vision 2050 will require all of us to rethink how we work, how we invest, and how we collaborate. If we embrace new partnerships, strengthen accountability, invest in people, mobilise private capital, empower local actors, build climate resilience, and focus relentlessly on results, we can achieve transformational change," Ambassador Nicola said during her opening remarks.

A panel discussion featuring Dr Blandina Kilama, @annawilsonfcdo, Fulgence T. Massawe, and Stephen Chacha, followed by an interactive partner session, explored opportunities to strengthen synergies and increase effectiveness among organisations working towards the implementation of DIRA 2050.

Ambassador Nicola also referenced Ireland's EU Presidency guiding principle, Ní neart go cur le chéile ("Strength with Unity"), noting that all stakeholders, including international partners, local institutions, communities, businesses, and citizens, must commit to working together to achieve Tanzania's vision.

Today, Ambassador Nicola Brennan was proud to host a Youth Climate Roundtable on #COP31 along with @womeninclimatetanzania. The event provided a platform for Tanzanian 🇹🇿 youth to share their priorities for COP31 and for climate action. The event was also attended by @tzembassyturkiye 🇹🇷 representative, Mr. Hasan Aydar as the host country.

Speaking during the session, @womeninclimatetanzania Founder and youth representative, Sylviabay Kijangwa, presented the Tanzania Youth Position Paper for COP31 followed by insightful discussion in the priority areas of Adaptation and Resilience, Climate Finance, Clean Energy and Just Transition, Climate Smart Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Gender Inclusion, Technology and Artificial Intelligence, and Biodiversity Conversation.

In her reflection, Amb. Nicola recognized the role of youth in #ClimateAction 🌍 through their leadership and innovation. She outlined Ireland’s EU Presidency 🇪🇺🇮🇪 guiding priorities to the COP31 which are implementation of climate commitments, protecting the Paris Agreement, strengthening multilateralism, building on past COP outcomes, and accelerating electrification.

The Embassy is supporting @womeninclimatetanzania to strengthen structured, coordinated and informed participation of Tanzania’s youth in climate action and climate governance processes before, during and after UNFCCC COP31 – including supporting one youth to participate and follow negotiations in COP31 in Türkiye.

Beyond the COP31, Ireland and the EU remain committed to advancing climate action, supporting vulnerable countries and communities, strengthening adaptation efforts, delivering climate finance commitments, and ensuring that the transition to a low-carbon future is fair and inclusive. by @irelandintanzania

POV: You had to corner Balozi because the youth have questions, priorities and a whole COP31 position paper! 😂🎤

From climate finance to youth representation, clean energy and climate action, we’re making sure our voices are heard beyond the conference room.

Because nothing about youth should be decided without youth. 🌍✊🏽

We’re not just here to participate; we’re here to influence decisions and demand action!

🎃 Last weekend, Ambassador Nicola Brennan was delighted to host a Hallowe'en reception, along with the Irish community and friends of Ireland 🇮🇪 in Tanzania 🇹🇿 to celebrate Oíche Shamhna – the ancient Irish festival that became Hallowe’en.

It was a fun, exciting night celebrating with costumes, Barmbrack and traditional Hallowe'en games.

Did you know that Ireland is the original home of Hallowe’en?

Hallowe’en has been celebrated in Ireland for over 2,000 years. The origins of Hallowe’en can be found in the ancient Celtic harvest festival, Samhain.

Oíche Shamhna shona daoibh!
Happy Halloween!

What does partnership make possible? In Pangani, it looks like this.
A community learning space restored after a devastating fire. Children helping launch protection desks in their schools. Community voices on Pangani FM. Theatre bringing difficult conversations into the open. Practical learning on water harvesting, irrigation and cleaner cooking.
During her visit to UZIKWASA on 19 October, Ireland’s Ambassador to Tanzania, H.E. Nicola Brennan, met the people turning these efforts into everyday action: children, teachers, community leaders, artists and young creators.
Reflecting on the theatre performances and the challenge of ending child marriage, she said: “It needs a whole community response.”
That conviction connects our work from individual reflection to institutions that listen and communities that act.
To the Embassy of Ireland in Tanzania, our community partners and friends: thank you for investing in locally led change and helping restore a space where that change can grow.

As you watch, which moment stays with you and why?
