A photographic installation in 32 parts, pasted directly onto the wall. Julian Kyusang Lee Ostinato Interstice Rendering, 2024 Giclée prints 240 x 360 cm Set against a winter landscape taken near Gangwon-do, the home region of the artist’s grandfather, Lee places a field of focus charts and compositional diagrams. Photography is treated here not as a transparent record but as a medium built from cropping, framing and withholding. The diagrams recur across the installation like a musical ostinato, a short figure repeated while the material around it continues to shift. Repetition does not resolve the distance between one version and the next. It holds that distance open, an interstice in which something is always lost in the crossing and nothing arrives as equivalent to what it replaced. Julian Kyusang Lee (b. 1993, Seoul) works primarily with images. His interest in the medium, shaped by growing up across three continents, centres on the inherent discrepancies between what is visible and what can be understood as meanings shift across cultural, political, and social codes. By disrupting these conventions, his works seek what remains legible beneath them: a shared ground where difference need not resolve into division. Lee studied at the University of Cape Town and completed his Meisterstudium at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (HGB). His work has been shown at Deichtorhallen Hamburg, LUMA Arles, Zeitz MOCAA and within documenta fifteen (2022). In 2026 he presented his solo exhibition Off-line IMAGE at OCI Museum of Art, Seoul, and is a recipient of gute aussichten – junge deutsche fotografie (2025). ——— 🖼 Limited Edition Fine Art Print IMAGES at Work, 2026 Edition of 100, signed and numbered by the artist A2 (42 x 59.4cm), printed on Hahnemühle Photo Matt Fibre 200g. "Images are put to work." Before we ask whether an image is true, it has already been put to work: measuring, sorting, deciding what we see and what is left out. iros.gallery presents 《IMAGES at Work.》, the first Berlin solo exhibition of Julian Kyusang Lee. Join us at the opening on 30 October, to sit with images in the moment before they settle into meaning. @kyusangleejulian ⸻ ✨ Vernissage: 30 October 18:00 🗓️ Wed-Fri 14:00-18:00 | Sat 12:00-18:00 📍 iros.gallery | Bleibtreustraße 3, Berlin #irosgallery #JulianKyusangLee #Vernissage #Berlincharlottenburg Photography Installation by @iros.gallery
We may guess what we are looking at, but never quite where we are looking from. What Hyeja withholds is not the landscape but the place from which to see it. @hyeja63 Pink Passage Oil on paper on canvas 2026 40 × 30 x 2cm 🖼️《Passage: Self-Location 》 🗓️ Wed-Fri 14:00-18:00 | Sat 12:00-18:00 📍iros.gallery | Bleibtreustraße 3, Berlin #irosgallery #PassageSelfLocation#hyeja#koreanartist#berlinartist by @iros.gallery
Lines trace the contours of faces, sometimes continuing into another face. They overlap, break, and change direction, bringing faces closer together or turning them away from one another. Across the 36 drawings, even small shifts in spacing and line can change what happens between faces. Relationships are complex, yet Kris reduces them to remarkably few lines. Their complexity does not disappear in the process. If anything, the more they are distilled, the more concentrated their intensity becomes. With so little on the page, every slight distance, change of direction, and overlap carries more weight. @kris.heide Headlines Series Acrylic ink on canvas 2017 50 x 40 x 3cm 📣Passage: Self-Location has been extended through October 17. Deep cobalt blue. A place of night, or a place inside a dream. The objects lose their ground and drift. Small flames. An overturned wooden chair. Two pink forms resembling petals, yet closer to a breath drawn from within a body. A place where gravity works differently. The objects seem placed like notes across the space, each sounding its own quiet tone. What could not stay inside a body rises, one by one, into the space of the night. @weitanart I Must Have Inhaled All of Your Problems Oil on Canvas 2024 100 × 120 x 2cm 🖼️《Passage: Self-Location 》 🗓️ Wed-Fri 14:00-18:00 | Sat 12:00-18:00 📍iros.gallery | Bleibtreustraße 3, Berlin #irosgallery #PassageSelfLocation#berlinartist#contemporaryart #weitan by @iros.gallery
Though unoccupied, the chair never feels simply empty. At times, it appears as an object within a room; at others, as a presence that nearly fills the entire frame. In the absence of a person, the chair itself begins to feel almost like a figure. @weitanart Sweet Dreams IV Oil on Canvas 2022 30 x 24 x 2cm You must be haunted by chairs II Oil on Canvas 2024 100 x 80 x 2cm 🖼️《Passage: Self-Location 》 🗓️ Wed-Fri 14:00-18:00 | Sat 12:00-18:00 📍iros.gallery | Bleibtreustraße 3, Berlin #irosgallery #PassageSelfLocation#berlinartist#contemporaryart #weitan by @iros.gallery
Hyeja’s paintings change depending on whether they are viewed from a distance or up close. From afar, they appear as scenes of the city. Structures and natural forms, water and diffused light come together to create a sense of space. Take a step closer, however, and the contours of the landscape begin to loosen, bringing layers of paint and overlapping brushstrokes to the surface. Forms that only moments ago belonged to a coherent landscape begin to reappear as traces of color and paint. Light and scenery are reflected in the water within the image, while the painted surface itself catches and reflects the actual light around it. As painted light and real light meet in the same place, the boundary between pictorial space and the physical surface of the painting begins to shift. The title speaks of a “shattered reflection,” yet the image does not break apart sharply. Instead, forms slowly dissolve and seep into one another. Our attempt to recognize what we are looking at is momentarily suspended somewhere in between. Between seeing and recognizing, the city resists being held within a single image. @hyeja63 Shattered Reflection series 1,2,3 Oil on Canvas 2025 100 x 100 x 2cm 🖼️《Passage: Self-Location 》 🗓️ Wed-Fri 14:00-18:00 | Sat 12:00-18:00 📍iros.gallery | Bleibtreustraße 3, Berlin #irosgallery #PassageSelfLocation#hyeja#koreanartist#berlinartist by @iros.gallery
