I was hesitant to share this because I still get fake shy and scared to be vulnerable lol. In February, I performed at my company’s BLK “Black History Month” event, where the overarching theme was resilience. I’m grateful to work for a company that supported me during my time of need and one that is unafraid to make space for and highlight marginalized groups even in a time when organizations are being discouraged, or even penalized, for doing so. Here I am performing “The Sun Cried with Me Today” and “Who Am I?” both written by me. Resilience, at one point in my life, felt like a dirty word. I was tired of being told, “You’re so strong, you’re so resilient.” It felt like the world saw me that way and just kept piling more on. It’s been some time since I’ve felt that way, and it’s strange at times being on the other side. Nowadays, I lean into gratitude and hope, but it took a lot of work and trust to realize that I wasn’t alone. In fact, I feel more loved and cared for now than I ever have in my life. So yeah I am resilient and strong. And to anyone struggling with mental health: it does get better. If you ever need help finding resources, I’m always here. During my time of struggle, I was given access to treatment I never knew existed. So please, use me as an aid let that be my service. by @isaw_therainbow
