This week on the Limber Lounge we’re chatting about whether health optimisation is starting to do more harm than good.

As we’re in the middle of our Winter Wellbeing Challenge, it feels like a fitting conversation. This winter we’ve been looking into what wellbeing means.
It’s not just about movement, nutrition or routines. It’s also about connection, creativity, nature, rest, community and finding joy.

Don’t get us wrong, there’s absolutely a time and place for optimising our health. But when every meal, workout, and sleep starts to feel like another thing to perfect… are we actually left feeling stressed, pressured and unable to be present???

Is it time to rethink what “well” looks like. We’d love to hear your thoughts. 🫶 by @itsallmovement

Meet the humans behind Limber 🌻 Maddy
Studio lead & teacher

You may know Maddy from her classes, but she’s recently stepped into the role of Studio Lead too.
From member nurture to studio support, she’s become an important part of the Limber experience.
So we thought it was time for a proper introduction 💛

WHAT would we find you doing outside of work life?

You can find me at the gym, watching reality TV on the couch, doing something active like bouldering with my family, or on a spontaneous outing in the city!

WHAT does movement mean to you?

At this stage of life, movement means being compassionate with myself. It’s a tool, a practice, a source of joy, a place to learn.

WHAT do you want people to feel when they leave your class?

I want people to feel like they have been able to move in a way that honours where they are at on any given day. They’ve had the chance to tune into themselves. 🫶 by @itsallmovement

When an industry like Pilates booms overnight, the standard of training is overlooked and under-appreciated.

It’s not to say all short courses are like this, though from what we’ve experienced and for the ones that are, it is a vulnerable situation on both sides of the mat. New teachers are coming in feeling lost and overwhelmed, and there is a room full of people who have put trust in them to be guided through the movement.

It’s great that more people are moving their bodies and get to choose a studio that is for them BUT is there a way for the industry to have the best of both worlds? by @itsallmovement

There can be sooo many myths around yoga and we couldn’t agree more with everything Maddy wished she knew when she started 14 years ago 🙌 by @itsallmovement

Strength training is cool because it makes shapes like this more accessible. Yoga will always be my biggest love, but making strength training a priority has only deepened my practice and body awareness even more.

As my knowledge has expanded and my body having moved through various seasons of life - having one form of movement be your everything leaves your body’s capacity for movement limited…

For the first time in my life I’ve been able to incorporate multiple styles of movement into my week and it’s made me my strongest and most adaptable self at 31 post baby.

Now arm balances and headstands aren’t the point of yoga - but I believe PLAY is something we need to lean on more as adults. For me it’s:
🤸to stay young at heart and in body
💕to keep up with a 3 year old pain free
🧠because play is good for my mental health!
💪push my edge, build resilience and find challenge whilst keeping cortisol low, because it’s FUN - not stressful

So if you want to have fun, have a laugh with (or at me), join me on the mat @limber_co

Nothing says resilience like landing on your face at least 28 times before you get it 🙂 by @itsallmovement

Just a little reality check from me to you.

Everything is glamourised on this thing (Instagram), and with teachers training courses getting shorter (scary 😬) and people powering through trainings and jumping straight into teaching (even more terrifying), it’s easy to be fooled that this job is a breeze 🙃

It is the only job where I learn something new everyday, constantly reflect on my sessions and actively search to know more - because we are dealing with people’s bodies (physical, mental, emotional and spiritual) and humans are COMPLEX.

In summary: please don’t do this just to quit your office job or because it looks like fun.

Do it because you want to help people learn about their bodies, help them move to the best of their ability, hold space for them to grieve, regulate their nervous system after a stressful day, cheer them on whilst they achieve their goals, create a safe journey for them through pregnancy into motherhood, help them build connections with their children they bring along with them, help them fight stigmas and hold community. by @itsallmovement

Have we lost touch in what COMMUNITY actually means?

In this Limber Lounge chat, we talk about what that actually takes putting yourself out there, creating spaces for people to connect, showing up again and again… and accepting that real community takes time.

Because as much as we all love protecting our peace (and trust us, we do 😅), we’re not really designed to do life alone. The right people can energise us, support us, challenge us and make life feel a whole lot fuller.

From a business perspective, it’s no different. You can’t slap “community” on the website and call it a day. You have to live it, host it, facilitate it and keep investing in it, even when it takes a while to grow. 🌱

What’s your thoughts on this? by @itsallmovement

Here’s what I’ve been consuming my time with lately 🐛

Weekend vibing in the city with my boys. I love this little life we have ❣️

Family time spent outside, nothing regulates the nervous system better!

Yin Yin Yin. Tis the season for deep folds and nourishing twists… my playlists have been gold if I do say so myself.

NZ family road trip planning!!! Counting down the months til me and my boys are travelling around NZ in a camper van for 3 weeks 🥾 🚐
