“let it all stay down in the water” I’ve always been the perfectionist type. Always too hard on myself, always looking for a way to do it right. I’m so thankful that Jesus reminds me and humbles me that this was never the way to be. He made me to be in relation with Him, not in relation with the world and how it says I should be. He gives me purpose, not my accolades, grades, boys, etc. Proverbs 19:21 says “many are the plans of a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” On April 28 2024 the Lord’s plan prevailed. I didn’t even plan to get baptized, but the Lord put it on my heart to fill out the baptism form the day before. THANK YOU JESUS for prevailing beyond my plan and wants! THANK YOU JESUS for being the pioneer and perfecter of my faith (Hebrews 12:2) THANK YOU JESUS for allowing me to do this with some of my best friends!!😘 I’ve divorced my old ways and been made new. All the old is down in the water. by @itssgenie_p
HBCU Kings and Queens carry more than a title. They carry the culture, the history, and the pride of their entire campus every time they step onto the yard. That is why we at Watch The Yard are launching a new series dedicated to introducing you to the leaders wearing the crown this year, continuing with Morehouse College. Mister Morehouse College Amir Lamar Staten is a senior Sociology major from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Alongside him, Miss Maroon & White Genesis Divine Price is a senior Sociology and Pre-Law major from Macon, Georgia. Together, Staten (@amir_st27 ) and Price (@itssgenie_p ) represent the Morehouse Maroon Tigers with a shared commitment to brotherhood, sisterhood, and service. Watch The Yard put out an open call to HBCU Kings and Queens across the country and we were able to interview Staten and Price about their reign. What started with a 5-year-old boy (@cjmatthews07) wanting to comfort others after losing his baby sister continues to grow in ways we could have never imagined. @cbsnewsatlanta joined us at our Wrapped in Hope service event, where students from across the theauccentralllc came together to make blankets, assemble hygiene and comfort kits, and write encouraging notes for people experiencing homelessness, including veterans. We are especially proud of Spelman senior @itssgenie_p, who has continued to show up, lead and serve alongside Blankies 4 My Buddies since her sophomore year. This marked her fifth service event with us, the first where she was there only to help. Watching young people like Genesis understand that even the simplest act of kindness can impact someone they may never meet is exactly what this work is about. And hearing @kollinslittlelife say, “I have to fill my brother’s shoes… and I just want to continue,” made this moment even more special. From C.J. starting this mission, to Kollin now helping carry it forward, to college students choosing to serve — this is what a legacy of giving looks like. CJ may be in another state right now playing football at #OttawaUniversityKansas but he continues to tap in, stay involved, and what we started when he was five is the gift that keeps on giving. Thank you to @jamalgosstv and CBS News Atlanta for sharing our story and shining a light on these incredible students and the people they are serving. And a special shoutout to other students who want to lead and continue to show up to support our work like @burns_dillan_ @_.3ant @kamoraindia @sydneyychristina @hannu.__ and so many more!!! “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” Galatians 6:9 Honestly, I didn’t know how to start this, but all I can say is; keep the faith. Keep the faith in good and in bad. Keep the faith despite what may or may not be said. What is written for you will always be for you and no one can ever change that. As a freshman, this position was one that I thought I could’ve only dreamed of, but God showed me that my dreams can be my reality. Morehouse, I love you forever. You showed me compassion when no one else did and love when I couldn’t seem to find it myself. I will always be indebted to your kindness. My brothers, there would be no me without you. Thank you for believing in me. To my pageant sisters, all of you embody what it means to be steadfast, honest, and true. I am honored to know you all and see your journeys unfold. To Jeniyah and Sydney, my heart cannot explain how excited I am for us to reign together! You both are not only beautiful on the outside, but on the inside, and I’m thankful for the friendship we share.🥹 To the PDs, Mama Queens, and advisors, I am at a loss for words. Sian, Mike, and Harrison, thank you for everything. Your lights shine so great, and I am honored to have learned from you all. Stoney, Dari, and Camryn, I wouldn’t have made it without you all. I had the opportunity to learn from the best and my love runs deep for you.🤍 Dr Lane and Ms Gunter, without your support this wouldn’t have been possible! Lastly, to my village; WE DID IT! The long nights, early mornings, tears, and uncertainty all paid off ONLY because I had you all. Xia, Solana, DéJon, Myles, and Ashleigh, you all were the glue that held me together. If I could repay you for your time I would😭 but for now I’ll just continue to pray that God blesses you 10fold. I love you all, and I’m honored to serve this 2026-2027 school year. Thank you for entrusting me with this honor. Genesis Divine Price 90th Miss Maroon & White by @itssgenie_p
