Trading mountain views for recovery days. The outdoors can wait… but I’m ready to get back out there. 💪🏔️

46. Still putting in the work. Strength changes. Recovery takes longer. The goals evolve. But showing up is what hasn’t changed.

Being in the Army for the last 22 years has had its challenges, but one thing has stayed consistent: fitness.

I can’t hike today, but I can still remember why I love it. 🍂🏔️

Fall in Alaska hits different. 🍂🏔️

These photos are from a previous hike, but it’s a reminder of just how lucky I am to have experienced these trails in their best season. I won’t be hiking them this fall, but I’ll be back.

Sometimes the trail doesn’t disappear—you just have to wait your turn to walk it again.

Until then, I’ll keep earning the view.

I’m used to chasing mountains, hiking trails, skiing, and pushing my limits. Right now, my biggest challenge is learning to slow down.

An injury can change your plans, but it doesn’t have to change your mindset.

So for the next few months, I’m trading the trails for recovery, the mountains for small victories, and “how far can I go?” for “what can I do today?”

I’m not sitting this chapter out. I’m just doing it differently.

Progress is progress no matter how insignificant it may seem at the moment. 💪🏼

It’s amazing how small you feel standing in front of mountains that have been here for thousands of years.

Days like this remind me to slow down, look around, and appreciate the journey just as much as the summit.

13.1 miles. No finish-line pressure, just fresh air, endless barley fields, and some of the best mountain views Alaska has to offer.

Sometimes the goal isn’t to be the fastest- it’s simply to appreciate where your feet can take you.

Therapist: “And how do you deal with stress?”

Me: Immediately hikes shirtless to a glacier lake.

Honestly… it’s working. 😂🏔️

The mountains don’t care how fast you hike, how much you lift, or what you look like.

They just ask that you keep going.

Lately, that’s been enough.

Every step is a reminder that I’m becoming the person I want to be again. Alaska has a way of putting life back into perspective.
