// Photographers -❓Do Horse & Rider photoshoots cause internal stress?
❓Do you feel like you’re stuck on the same 3 poses, or have brain freezes and can’t remember poses?
❓Are you finding yourself waiting for the perfect pose, and feeling frustrated because it never happened, or you missed it?

I will be teaching a three day, Horse & Rider workshop January 15-17, that is designed to open your minds, fuel your creativity, and give you guidance in providing a confident, successful, and fulfilling photography business.

I have several photoshoots planned, where I will be showing you the world as I see it, creating a client experience that continually provides me with a fully booked schedule.

From planning the photoshoot, translating clients' words into emotional photographs, identifying locations, lighting, colors and textures available, working with equine behavior, teaching fluid posing for horse and riders on the ground, under saddle, or bareback, culling the best images, and polishing them with a consistent style of editing you’re proud to stand behind.

🚨 Limited to 5 dedicated photographers! Ideal for those who can soak up education FAST, and are eager to elevate their photography skills and double their business (I hold nothing back and it is a lot of information).

Your education will not end on the last day!
⭐️A private portal specifically for the students in this workshop
⭐️A private 1:1 virtual mentorship, completed via zoom, to be used within 6 months of the workshop, will provide you with an extra boost in education, once you are home and able to apply the skills learned in the workshop.
⭐ ️My 60+ page PDF guide on posing Horse & Riders is included in the workshop
⭐️ Three step by step editing tutorials, using the photos we have taken during the workshop, are also included!

You will not find a workshop that provides the vast amount of education, the attention and individual guidance to each student, or the resources available to take home, guaranteed.

🚨Life changing update!! This change in my life is HUGE, & if I'm honest, a bit scary & still feels like a pipe dream. 🚨

Four years ago I was told that I wasn't good enough, wouldn't make any impact, & should stick to my own "territory," when I started dreaming of being an equine photographer in Florida. Like always - when someone tells me I can't do something, I tell them to hold my chicken, & watch me not only accomplish what they said I couldn't, but flourish from it.

This last Winter traveling to Florida for 1 week a month was wildly successful, for both my client photography & educational side of the business. After reassessing my personal needs, business goals, many late night conversations with my husband, & crunching numbers, it didn't make sense for me to be limiting my business & dreams to one week a month.

So we decided to get a place in Wellington, Florida.

I'm sick with concern of how my husband & I will adjust to a schedule that puts our marriage first. I'm terrified I won't be able to measure up to my expectation or demands of the business. But I'm excited to see how this will elevate our lives together, & how it provides us with more opportunities to chase dreams.

Paperwork has been signed, & we fly down in a few weeks to get the keys and start moving in. I have a lot of travel still on my schedule for the summer, so I won't be settled into Wellington until late October or early November. As for right now - I am still booking for my original dates...

📸 Florida (Ocala + Wellington) - November 9-14
📸 Florida (Ocala + Wellington) - December 4-9

& will officially open my books once I am settled.

My biggest hope for this scary step in life, is that the client relationships I have built over the years will rally behind the business, & not only continue booking with me, but will encourage their friends & family to do the same. Without the client support, this dream could not, & cannot happen. I'm going to work my tail off, get over the imposter syndrome, & make this opportunity the best and most memorable step in my business!

So.... Will someone hold my chicken while I prove to the world (and myself) that I can do this?? 🐓 by @j.kleinphotos

Hello! 👋 I’m Jesse, the gal behind J.Klein Photos. I wanted to introduce myself to new clients and supporters, and say hi to all my friends!

🎀 The basics: I’ve had a camera in my hand, photographing horses and dogs for over two decades, 14 of those years as a professional photographer based out of Maine, and now Michigan! I grew up competing in the dressage world, and training dogs for the disabled or k9 units, or personally as an agility, obedience, rally, or trick dogs. I’ve been published on more than 25 national magazine covers, and photographed for equine brands such as LeMieux, SmartPak, and State Line Tack. While I am based in Michigan, I do travel throughout all of the United States to offer photography for horses and dogs!

😎 Fun Facts: I love to bake, and can make killer cinnamon rolls from scratch! I can play the guitar and piano, and in high school, was offered a spot on the local radio to play original songs. I know how to make a book - including how to process trees into paper, roots into glue, and flax into binding thread. If I had to compete in a sport that didn’t involve animals, I would 💯 return to open water swimming (it’s much less scary here in Michigan than in the monster filled waters of Maine!😱).

Want to know more? Drop a question below in the comments! 👇🙃

// VARIETY is found when I can move my feet and capture the moments as they unfold, from multiple heights and angles!

I rarely stay in one place, and somedays it leaves my assistant wondering where the heck I’ve disappeared to!? 😆

During this branding photoshoot, I was capturing BTS photos for @jlmcphotography_ , as she worked with a client. I wanted to photograph as quickly as possible, from as many viewpoints, with different compositions, to capture the feeling of Jordan’s workflow, personality, and the unique experience she offers to her own clients.

I also wanted to maximize our time and finish my list of photos before she was done with her images, allowing the client experience to flow smoother, and Jordan the opportunity to get a larger collection of images from me!

The sunsets this fall have been STUNNING!! My opinion - it's the most beautiful time of day, and a reminder that our time here on this rock is limited, so we must make the most of every day we have.

I have enjoyed working with Kelli, Morgyn and both of their Skye Terriers, and was eager to explore a new location and landscape with them. They were enjoying the photoshoot experience, so we spent more time exploring and waiting for the sun to set into perfect conditions for colorful silhouettes.

I wanted to live in these moments forever, but time doesn't stand still for anyone, so we appreciated the beauty while it lasted, and captured images to remember the moments for forever. 🌅

// The most popular pose this season surprised me, because while it can be super powerful if symmetry is achieved, it’s never been a favorite pose for me.

This is a great example of why I always ask the clients if they have any poses they LOVE, and would like to capture with their horse. Those requests are always my top priority when photographing.

Variations of this pose can include…
👉🏻 Full body, straight down (no motion)
👉🏻 Full body, straight down WITH motion
👉🏻 Head shot (no hooves)
👉🏻 Closer shot WITH hooves, and curiosity through eye contact
👉🏻 Details of braids, markings or even a tongue out

I keep all of these variations in mind when photographing, because every horse is going to give their own interpretation of the pose.

This pose is easiest captured when luring the horse down either with food or with a toy they are charmed by (i.e. feathers or fur).

"Jesse is a visionary masterpiece-maker, standing completely unrivaled as the most wonderfully skilled, talented, and definitive photographers of our time.

This was our 6th year booking with her, and she continues to blow us away year after year. Our goal was to get perfect pictures of our son, our dog, and our family, and Jesse delivered a gallery where every single shot I wanted was captured flawlessly.

If you have any fears about how your pets will behave, don't worry for a second; Jesse is an absolute magician who knows how to work with dogs in ways I can’t even describe, and her interactions with our animals were flawless. I trust her fully!

We also ordered a custom fine art album, and the quality is so breathtakingly amazing that it literally brought tears to our eyes. What we love most about the whole experience is that Jesse brings us so much genuine joy we always leave our shoots just completely full of happiness. She is the absolute best of the best, we will continue to come back year after year, and I cannot recommend her highly enough!"

This fall has truly been all about the dogs. It's been a wonderful last minute hooray before I head to the horse capitol of the world for my winter season.

Sarah requested that we spend her photoshoot at her dog's favorite stretch of beach along Lake Michigan. She wanted more candid style images, focusing on authentic memories she had with her golden retrievers. We had the most beautiful fall evening and pastel sunset to utilize and the images turned out super dreamy!

Sarah and her pups did a wonderful job, even when I was yelling directions over the loud waves crashing, my assistant throwing a dog treat bag full of sand to get ears, and our leashing nearly floating away in the water. 😆 Through the orchestration of the shoot, the beauty of the sunset and the gratitude of the love Sarah and her pups shared, and how lucky I am to have photography be my full time job, was at the front of our minds.

I don't think any of us would have chosen anywhere else to be in those moments. 💛🌅🐾

These were a handful of my favorites from this photoshoot.

// SWIPE ↔️ Look at the difference between these two images! The whole feeling changes when you simply add a layer between the horse & rider and the camera -- in this case, I shoved my camera high into a tree and shot through the leaves (#shortpeopleproblems 😂).

When a client can follow directions easily and quickly, and their horse has solid ground manners, it allows me to push my creativity to the next level!

This is Anabelle and her OTTB, Deli, who were wonderful models during a private photography mentorship I was teaching. The student wanted to focus on learning how to create a solid posing plan for photoshoots, and how to push those poses to create a more intimate photo, by utilizing the landscape as layers. This is a frequent request from students, and a topic I really enjoy teaching. It gets my own creative wheels turning, and showing a student a whole new view point on every day moments is incredibly fulfilling. 💕

The beauty is there, we just have to climb trees, get stuck in fences, lay in wet dirt, or hide in stalls to see it. (If you know ... you know. 😂 Photoshoots with me are always entertaining!)

// Did you know that I have 26 years old dog training and behavioral knowledge that backs up my photography skills?

Being able to read your dog’s body language and emotions, allows me to shape their behavior and capture photos that you feel in my heart, but can’t find words to describe.

We may start with a simple pose, say, “Sit in the grass next to your dog, have your comfortably on them, and sweet talk your dog.”

Then we let the dog take the lead. I photograph through the movement of their body language, capturing a variety of expressions and emotions.

I may see a super subtle movement from your dog, but frozen in a photo it can speak volumes.

This is what sets me apart from other dogs photographers, and what takes literal decades of learning dog behavior and training to gain.

Want to see some of the training I’ve done on my own dog? Check out my corgis page at @thephotographerscorgi He is 100% homeschooled and a true testament to my background in dog training. 💕

// your experience during the photoshoot - including the memories behind the scenes- are just as important as capturing the photos you hired me for.

I try to always grab a few candid or BTS moments during every photoshoot. These were the candids and extra bts photos captured during a photoshoot for 7 Samoyed puppies, out of Solid Gold in Grand Haven, Mi.
