Tonight UNFRIENDING is @theplacelondon.

Created with the graduating dancers Daniela Carler, Ella Holappa, Jule Niekamp & Emma Pocq in changing conditions as a theatre work... this week it’s a video work being shown in the theatre and livestreamed.

I’ve worked with assistance from long term collaborator Elisa Vassena to realise my first work for the theatre, and though we’re in a different situation to what we thought, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed leading this team and am excited to share our process with you.

Genevieve Reeves was with us for the last days we could work, supporting the capturing of images that would have become a projected part of the live work which ultimately made it possible for me to edit a digital version last minute. It’s different to what you would have seen live, a sister or companion.

Before I met the students I’d planned to make a film, so the way we planned and worked set us up well for the change in circumstances and made it possible to move to digital format.

We’ve had a really good time together creating UNFRIENDING, which is inspired by the Daniela-Ella-Emma-Jule relationship blended with my vision for the work I thought we’d make!

We all hope you enjoy experiencing the work online or in the theatre this week.

Next week the screensaver returns to Italy, this time Naples @centrokorper and I’m super sad to not be going (home with babe 💕🍼🤸) but excited to welcome @kieranbrown790 to the Screensaver Series cast for his debut shows. Such a pleasure to welcome new ppl to this work over its years 💫 by @j.neve.harrington

Catch me later today at Choreographic Devices @rosechoreographicschool where I’m showing WIP: even an animal can’t move sometimes, they wait and move later

In residency earlier this year with @onassis.stegi I worked with visual, video, text and sonic materials from my unseen 2019/20 commission with @scottishdancetheatre —disrupted by the pandemic— to redevelop a video series and feed into a “solo” project with some new writing. I’ll show the full series next year in a gallery show. If you’re around you can find me at 4:45pm. by @j.neve.harrington

Screensaver Series returns to Italy next month with 2 shows @centrokorper in Naples, with Kieran Brown making a debut in the line up alongside Elisa Vassena, Louise Tanoto, Vanessa Abreu & Bonni Bogya.

We started working on this work around 2014/15 through some research supported by @southeastdance showing an early version at MOCO Goldsmiths then a WIP at Villa Empain Brussels before bringing the work towards its current form with @danceumbrella 2018 through Emma Gladstone’s timely and life- changing support. With that in mind I can never quite decide when it’s been a decade of this work, but sort of!

Catch us on 1/11 @centrokorper

Some snippets of FIVES R&D with @vasche_visive @kieranbrown790 @barn.e.white supported by @theplacelondon @aceagrams

Through the lens of the 5 love languages & primary senses (and beyond!), FIVES invites audiences into a sensory world where intimacy and autonomy gently unfold, encouraging us to consider how we give and receive attention, what shapes our preferences and how we truly want to express and experience connection.

In the last days of research we were focussing on some of the visual languages for the work across live drawing/ painting/ mark-making with movement, conversation and documentation. FIVES will be a work across media, drawing on the interests of the team as we figure out how to make something which speaks to both children and adults, including the children in us.

We’ve got lots more to do and try before we’re ready to share this work with audiences, but here’s a little insight.

Team: Elisa Vassena, Kieran Brown, Barney White & Neve Harrington.
