It’s worth a little extra effort. Because of this unnecessary coolant path on these Tesla motors, many of them fail because of this one issue. Matty gave us an explanation on how to fix it before it becomes an issue. #electricvehicles #evconversion #teslamotors by @j5dynamics
Mocking up a turbine hub for an upcoming “project “ Thanks @avsmotorsportsusa for knocking these hub adapter mockups in 1 day! . . . . #turbine #windtunnel #aerodynamics #fluiddynamics #aviation by @j5dynamics

Understanding the fundamentals of electric propulsion for practical aviation applications. Here on the J5 Dynamics small motor test stand is a 12kw motor with an 8kw peak power controller. This was ran at full continuous power for 10 minutes straight at around 60 volts and 80 amps (4800 watts)to better understand heat soaking. Heat soaking is important to understand since this can creep up and cause catastrophic failure. The motor was run low voltage on purpose to increase current so that it was a simulated low battery scenario with a need to do a go around at full power. This is believed to be one of the most critical parts that the motor and battery system need to be capable of working perfectly on. #aviation #electric #electricaviation✈️ #flying #airplane #airplanes #aircraft by @j5dynamics
Under the hood of the Hilux lives the Tesla Model S charger and DC-DC. These are both water cooled and part of the motor cooling loop. Everything is plumbed to the stock Toyota radiator. The radiator is technically way to large for this but is fine since it never gets close to critically hot. Even on 100 degree days. And of course the “frunk” Home Depot bucket. . . . . #hilux #toyota #toyotahilux #toyotatrucks #toyotatruck #toyotapickup #testa #teslaswap #teslamodels #electricconversion #electrictruck #electricclassiccars #electricrestomod #ev #evconversion #evswap #evpickup by @j5dynamics
The Tesla powered Toyota Hilux chassis before it had a battery. A very simple and straightforward design for this EV truck. You can see the De-Dion axle here which acts like a straight axle except it wraps around the motor that is mounted to the chassis. And carry’s the Tesla model 3 hubs with Honda Accord rear disk brakes. These were used since they have a mechanical parking brake that the old Toyota cable E-Brake system could use. . . . . #tesla #teslamodels #toyota #toyotapickup #toyotahilux #toyotatrucks #electric #electricrestomod #electricpickup #ev #electriccar #electriccars #electricconversion #evconversion #evswap #evtruck #hilux by @j5dynamics

Using as much equipment as possible to collect data. by @j5dynamics
Thrust and wattage testing this afternoon. Good data collected. Adjustments need to be made on the motor controller to maintain a better RPM at full throttle. . . . . #aircraft #aviation #electricaviation #electricaircraft # by @j5dynamics
