To do a two-person play—a new play with no road map—is a total trust fall. This story of a torn and searching young family resonated so deeply with @elizabetadavis & myself. I’m proud of my dear friend Elizabeth, and this entire team lead by @chadaustinnyc. We gathered at the bottom of that mountain day 1, and with open and playful hearts, somehow eventually found our nightly path through a devastating arc. All the while surrounded (literally) by an audience peering into our wee bathroom, just an arm’s length away… perhaps nervous about what they got themselves into. 😆 Thankful for the moment to celebrate everyone involved with #MaybeTomorrow by @maxmondi at @abingdontheatrecompany. 🫶 photos by: @gcope.nyc ✨ by @danamboyer

Sad that there won’t be a season 2 of #UnCoupled after all. Thankful for my experience, would have loved to see this story go on.. Had my eyes set on it as soon as I heard about it, originally. 😂 One of my favorite projects (to be a small part of)—and a meaningful moment for me to finally play a gay role on screen. My technicolor awakening.. 🏳️‍🌈 Every theatre kid has a JOSEPH story.. and same. Found this sheet music left behind at Ripley this week, couldn’t resist croaking/plunking about, and realized… it’s been [insanely] 30 years since my time ended w the revival tour as a kiddo in 1996. How bout that for a random fact. A crazy beautiful moment in my childhood- a wildly joyful, enormous spectacle of a production, with the universally beloved @donnyosmond at the center. But also a very talented, and very gorgeous cast from NY.. dear reader, they were hot. I mean, *12* brothers from many backgrounds in the show (+ covers etc)… The child wranglers [appropriately] kept us very separate, but I couldn’t help observing from a distance.. the palpable brotherhood of those performers, the love, and the several many out liberated actors among them. It was truly my little gay awakening (oh hello first crush /Joseph understudy @vance_avery!) Also, being the mid-90s, I’m thinking of what it was even like then to be out— what those young gay men might have been going through. The uncertainty, the pressure, the fear.. without the support of our modern legal and medical advances. But their confidence and visibility may have just saved me. I’m also considering why I so connected with this show, and still carry such a soft spot.. But then really, it’s a show about an outsider, a dreamer with a rainbow technicolor coat, shunned and abandoned by his family— and even at the depths of despair [cue song in carousel], he sets off to make his own place in the world and help others prosper. Not a whisper of a romantic plot. 🌈 And with that, I couldn’t resist posting this throwback love of a very rainbow and very happy time long ago, especially during #pridemonth. 🫶 @donnyosmond @andrewlloydwebber @lwentertainment #joseph #🏳️‍🌈#josephandtheamazingtechnicolordreamcoat by @danamboyer

Pride month always takes me back to my teenage years in Michigan. When that celebration of visibility meant SO MUCH to me. Inventing SOME WAY to get myself near the annual pride fest (hi @pride.royaloak 👋)— to just people watch from the sidelines. To see gay people at all- and just feel that radiation of joy and freedom. Starting to come out at 12 to friends & family was pretty wild, looking back. And a lonely journey until I started to find my community in an arts high school. I am deeply indebted to the #LGBTQIA forefathers & mothers that came before us- who through protest and coordinated activation created a world where, as a teenager, I could even imagine the possibility an open and happy future. To create the life I dreamt of. To marry, to raise a family. But also not to be fired, to be kicked out of housing, etc for being gay… To have equal rights. Today, this celebration of pride & visibility again feels imperative— to rally our troops, celebrate, and to let the world know there’s no fucking way we’re going back— we will not concede ground. And to show the shy kids watching from the sidelines what it’s all about, and that we have their backs this time around. 🫶🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Pics from my teenage era- lots of hair dye, clearance banana republic & xy magazines under the mattress. by @danamboyer

Alas! Happy 462nd Birthday, Mr. Shakespeare! 🎭🧁 Middle school Dan (slide 2) fell in love with the bard because my teachers believed in the value of busing us across international borders to the @Stratfest every year (we slept in a nurse’s dormitory for $2/night) — and that early exposure to The Greats (and a truly great company of actors) is what made me pine for theatre school. I got to do seasons of Shakespearean repertory elsewhere (HONESTLY BUCKET LIST), others here and there, and here’s a few fav moments (also crazy moments—being pulled from your usual Thurs night show in the other theatre across the street to go as an understudy—for an actor 30 years your senior—in a history play that you’ve only ever rehearsed ONCE?! 🫣 see slide 3) Wild how Shakespeare’s expression of the human experience in all its complexity, beauty and darkness still can make our hearts sing 400 years later. 🖤 Happy #ShakespeareDay to all who celebrate! @theoldglobe @utahshakespeare @shakespeareindc @chicagoshakes by @danamboyer
