POSTS STORIES REELS

Last night 💕🍕 A family pizza night at @littlehoneybk (I love this spot! It’s so cozy). Wearing my me-made “Icecream Coat” (I think we can all agree that this is one of my best projects ever), and my bag is also DIY—an Hermes Constance lookalike kit from Babylon Leather. The coat pattern I used is @simplicity_creative_group #S8749, with wool coating from @moodfabrics (camel) and @fabric_fabric (pink). by @jaclynsalem

Making progress on my Postage Stamp Journey Quilt! The pattern is from @fatquartershop, and the fabrics are all block prints in various reds from @blackbirdfabrics and @loomandstars. 🫶💕 by @jaclynsalem

I sewed us matching shirts! 💕✂️🧵 As soon as I saw this amazing jersey stripe pink and orange colorway from @lyricalfabrics, it was a done deal! Had to have it. I used the @unfetteredpatterns Loose T-shirt pattern (free! Modified into long sleeve), and the Kids Oversized Relaxed Fit T-Shirt from the Cutline Atelier shop on Etsy. I was juuuuust barely able to eke out both shirts with one yard (Crowley’s sleeves are a couple inches shy of the full-length long sleeve, but it’s fine 😁).

Perfect for October weekend shenanigans in Brooklyn 💕☕️⚰️ by @jaclynsalem

I sewed matchy-matchy oversized tees for Crowley and myself! 😁🥰 The fabric is a jersey knit from @lyricalfabrics—LOVE the pink and orange. The patterns are: 1) Kids Oversized Relaxed Fit T-Shirt from Cutline Patterns on Etsy and 2) Loose T-Shirt (an awesome FREE pattern!!) from @unfetteredpatterns, which I modified into long sleeve. Swipe through for all of my tips for perfectly matching stripes at the side seams. 🤓😎✂️🧵🪡 by @jaclynsalem

The last of the vacation outfits! My phone nearly had a meltdown trying to overcome rainy season humidity for these pics, but we do what we gotta do 🤣😅. This was a last minute vacation project, and was definitely a test of my fitting skills. The first try on, it fit everywhere *except* for a 2” surplus on the waist panel under the bust, BUT it fit at the waist. Unfortunately this meant that I still had to take the entire dress apart so I could cut off a wedge at the side seams only on that waist panel and then re-sew it together. I’m not sure if what I’m saying is making sense, but the point is, it fits now. The color is to DIE for!!! A bright AF chartreuse cotton that I got from @fab_scrap. However, because it’s a cotton, it’s SO grabby to any undergarments, so I really need to add a silky lining to the skirt so it stops sticking and clinging to everything. (Right now the bodice is fully lined but it’s just hanging free attached to nothing at the waist because I was very short on time.) I used @simplicity_creative_group #m7789 for the bodice (FINALLY!! I have had that pattern forever), and I used a shortened version of the #m8038 skirt, which is more A-line in shape. I didn’t have enough fabric to cut my usual half-circle skirt, but I like how this one skims the body without being too bodycon, and it was a great option to use less fabric. Don’t look too closely at my baby blue zipper….👀 Time was of the essence and I literally hemmed the dress mere hours before leaving my house for this girls trip!! 🤣 Back home in NYC now and got my eye on fall fashion…. by @jaclynsalem

I originally sewed this dress for @nycfrocktails 2023! I was hugely inspired by the gorgeous, fully beaded celestial Clio Peppiatt dresses, and set out to make my own version. This dress is self-drafted, but I looked to @simplicity_creative_group #s9594, #m8051, and #v1786 for style lines guidance. I had a lot of assistance from sewing friends to help me fit this project via pin fitting to perfection (at the time. It doesn’t fit AS well now, but it’s still pretty good!). The finished dress is rather simple, but the work was all in the fit, as all shaping was achieved via side seam draft and long fish eye darts on the front and back to ensure minimal disruption to the celestial mesh + sequin overlay. Originally, I was going to add a short, 4" white fringe to the dress. But when I pinned it on, it just didn’t feel right, so I opted to cut the mesh longer instead and love that effect. I love this dress, but I loved that night at Frocktails even more. I got to meet so many sewing friends in person for the first time that night!! If you have an opportunity to attend a Frocktails in your city, I hiiiiiighly recommend it. 🤍 The Fish Bag continues to steal hearts. 🐠😂 by @jaclynsalem

Many of you saw these come together in my stories, but the DIY fish bags needed their own dedicated post! 🐠 I’ve had @sewingtimes.nancy free DIY Fish Drawstring Bag saved for years, and decided for this girls trip to make us a trio of coordinating fish bags with a chic twist. 😂 My lace remnants stash is insane if I do say so myself. I have collected so many wonderful sequin and lace treasures via many happy hours spent digging through bins at Brooklyn @fab_scrap over the years. With pieces so small, it can be somewhat difficult to use them, but this worked out soooo well. For the bodies, I used some sequin pieces or other special stash remnants, and then for the fish heads I appliquéd lace to a coordinating backing. I mixed in some stripes for the fins and tails pieces to bring in some pattern play and also a subtle nautical feel. This is a super simple pattern that would be perfect for an absolute beginner to sewing, but there is also much opportunity for seasoned sewist to go all out as well. So far we’ve taken the bags out for two nights, and OMG the amount of compliments we’ve received on these bags…crazy!! 😂 They are SO fun, and I highly recommend making one. A great size too—holds a phone, card wallet, etc…I can absolutely see myself using mine regularly to bring a pop of fun to an outfit, and obviously a perfect vacation bag. Perfect for scrap busting and so fun for color and print mixing. Make one!! Love you, @calliehwood and @britbeisner!!

Sewing Project Reveal: The Flower Top! 🌺 I sewed a dupe of the gorgeous $328 Cult Gaia Rachel Top using @etta.sewingpatterns Flower Mini Dress sewing pattern in a melon-colored cotton twill. The final piece is such a fun statement top. Peep my DIY Fish Bag 🐠 (more to come on that later though 😂). If you’d like to see some of the process of the top coming together, check out my previous post. by @jaclynsalem

I sewed my own version of the Cult Gaia Rachel Top! 😍 I made mine out of a melon cotton twill from stash, and I used the @etta.sewingpatterns Floral Mini Dress to hack it. Try on reveal coming soon 💕💁🏻‍♀️ (Swipe for some process pics.) by @jaclynsalem

Today for my belated birthday present, @awax20 planned a city-wide scavenger hunt with some of my favorite places. It was a perfect day. Wore one of my all-time favorite sewing projects for the occasion: Butterick 5935 sewn in the iconic Japanese linen poppies floral print purchased from @stonemountainfabric ages ago. One of my most worn pieces of all time! Love this top, but more importantly, love my family. 💕

Sewing Project Reveal: Here she is! My @simplicity_creative_group #m8677 bodice + self-drafted half-circle skirt dress! This project was in the works for a longgggg time. (If you want to check out the process, check out process posts 1-3 on my grid). It went through a lot of transformation of ideas, but the finished piece is a dress I’m really happy with. I’ve already worn it several times since completing it. The bodice is such a stunner- I can definitely see myself using it again. The fabric selection was inspired by those minimal, neutral Calvin Klein types of dresses from the 90s, but the dress style is reimagined in ways that work better for my style. The fabric is a silk-cotton voile from @moodfabrics that has the most beautiful sheen. The fabric does wrinkle quite easily (even just from sitting) which is unfortunate, but it has not stopped me from wearing it a ton even if I have to pull out the iron every time I want to wear it 😂. by @jaclynsalem
