The LA to Vegas drive looks easy—270 miles, open road, good vibes... until it’s not. 😅 On a chill weekday, you can make it in about 4–4.5 hours. Smooth, fast, no stress. But hit it at the wrong time? That same trip turns into an 8–10 hour nightmare. 🚗💨 Friday afternoons going to Vegas and Sundays heading back are the worst—Interstate 15 becomes one long parking lot. The real pain hits near Primm at the Nevada–California border. Lane merges + heavy traffic = the infamous “Mojave crawl.” You’re stuck in the desert heat, barely moving, watching your ETA get worse by the minute. 🌵🔥 Add steep climbs like Cajon Pass, random accidents, and zero alternate routes... and yeah, you’re not going anywhere fast. Pro tip: Leave at night or super early in the morning if you actually want a smooth trip. Otherwise, good luck surviving the drive. 😬

The drive from Los Angeles to Las Vegas is known for being highly unpredictable, turning what should be a simple 270-mile journey into a long and exhausting trip that can last anywhere from 4 to 10 hours depending on traffic. On quieter weekdays, the drive may only take around 4 to 4.5 hours, but weekends-especially Friday trips toward Nevada and Sunday returns to California-often bring major congestion along Interstate 15. Traffic is usually worst near the Nevada-California border around Primm, where heavy vehicle flow and merging lanes create long delays commonly referred to as the "Mojave crawl." Combined with intense desert heat and steep mountain roads like Cajon Pass, the trip can quickly become more draining than expected.
