To the little boy who once doubted himself look at you now. You have become your ancestors’ wildest dreams. You defied the odds and achieved something that only a small percentage of Black men in the United States have accomplished: earning your master’s degree. And not just earning it but doing so with excellence, graduating with a 4.0.

The past two years tested me in ways I never imagined. Balancing life as a Global History special education teacher , leading a basketball program, and being a graduate student at Fordham University pushed me to my limits. There were moments of doubt, exhaustion, and uncertainty but I never stood alone. I leaned on my village, and most importantly, I leaned on God.

Faith over fear every single time.

Through every setback, I learned that failure and rejection aren’t roadblocks they’re part of the process. Every failure carried a lesson. Every rejection was just delayed gratification. Those moments didn’t break me they built me.

To the next generation: the world is yours. To every student I’ve ever coached or taught know that there is nothing standing in your way but yourself. You are capable of greatness beyond what you can see right now. Believe that. Live that.

And to my family thank you for loving me, supporting me, and holding me down through it all. None of this happens without you.

This is bigger than me. This is legacy. This is standard. This is purpose. This is proof that anything is possible.

With love,
Mr.Thomas

Dear Ms. V,

I did it. I kept my promise to you. I went back, I finished, and I made it through.

I also kept our boys and girls on the right path through basketball and education, just like we talked about. You played such a big role in making sure our girls had the resources they needed to be successful, and I wish you were here to see how far they’ve come.

This moment is bigger than me. It’s about every life you touched, every seed you planted, and every promise I’m still working to keep.

I wish you were here to share this accomplishment with me, but I know you’re proud. I love you, Ms. V, and I’ll continue to honor you through this work. 💜 by @jah___12
