Gifted by Hygger | Aquarium maintenance just got a little easier!

Our first Hygger water pump is still going strong, and we still use it for water changes!

This time, Hygger sent us their HG298 Handheld DC Water Changer to try out. Being able to clean around the sandbed and move water with one tool has made our maintenance routine a lot more convenient.

And yes… we had to speed through the assembly part. 😂

Big thanks to @hygger_nicol and @hygger.official for another opportunity to work together!

The fish get all the attention… but somebody’s gotta work the night shift. 🐌

From our Trochus handling the rockwork to the Cerith snails patrolling two different reefs, these little workers deserve some recognition.

Although… some need a little help getting back on their foot. 😂

Who’s the hardest worker in your cleanup crew?

Small fish, big decisions.

Just because a fish is small doesn’t mean it’s the right fit for a small reef.

As part of my paid partnership with @reefbayapp, I explored their species library and DeepDive feature to learn more about my Tailspot Blenny and what to watch for alongside my clownfish and firefish.

There’s always something new to learn in this hobby. And for me, reefkeeping isn’t just about keeping beautiful fish. It’s about understanding the little lives we’re responsible for.

What’s one fish you’d love to keep in your aquarium?

Tiny Worlds EP04 | The Fish Who Clocks Out

My firefish has a better work schedule than I do. Same routine every day, and when he’s done, he’s DONE. Doesn’t even wait for the tank lights to turn off.

Anyone else’s fish have a bedtime routine?

I think our Tailspot Blenny forgot he’s a blenny. 🤣

Instead of sitting on his rocks, he’s been cruising around with the firefish and clownfish like he’s officially part of the crew.

A perfectly good anemone… and this clownfish decided the Pulsing Xenia was the better hangout.

Guess he’s making his own rules.

Meet the tiniest landlord of our 6.9G reef!

He may be small, but he’s always watching, exploring, and acting like he owns the place.

Welcome to Tiny Worlds: a JaivesAquatic mini-documentary series.

Every little life has a story.

Ad | Keeping up with two nano reefs isn’t always easy!

Between water changes, testing parameters, and maintenance, there’s always something to remember.

That’s why I’ve partnered with ReefBay to help keep my 6.9G and 15G organized in one place!

S3 • EP3 | The Finale.

May 2026. Just rocks, substrate, and an idea.

Then came the plants, the first fish, and all the little changes along the way.

It wasn’t a perfect journey, but watching this 10G become its own little world has been worth it.

Thank you for following our freshwater journey. This chapter may be ending, but the tank keeps growing.

S3 • EP2 | Life Moved In 🌿

After the scape was planted, it was finally time to bring in some life.

On June 5, eight CPDs became the first fish in the 10G. Eleven days later, the Betta joined them.

Not everything went exactly to plan, today only one CPD remain but this was the point where the tank stopped feeling like a setup and started feeling alive.

Next: the finale.

A 6-day work week pushed our regular 15G maintenance back… and the tank definitely showed it.

Cyano came back, bubble algae kept spreading, and I finally had the chance to get in there and do what I could. Siphon, manually remove algae, change the water, and replace the filter floss.

Not perfect yet, but we’re back on track.

Reefkeeping isn’t always perfect progress.

S3 • EP1 | How This 10G Started 🌿

Before this 10G became the planted tank you see today, it was just substrate, a few rocks, and an idea.

Then came the first plants. Slowly the scape started filling in, life moved in, and the tank became something completely different.

This is where Season 3 really begins.
