Literacy must be noisy! Without exploring our tongue, teeth, jaw, lips, and throat — many phonemes would be the exact same to children. I’ve shared many examples of phonological deficits that are persisting through even 4th and 5th grade.

Let’s keep that screen time to minimum in K-3. We’ve got noise to make!

This is one of the most joyful moments I have ever had as a teacher. I will never forget it. Some days, I watch this to remember my why.

January can be a tough time. How are you doing? Drop a word in the comments that describes you’re current state. Mine right now? Exhausted.•

NYC 🗽

My 7th visit to @ps152q was so joyful today. The routines we put in place have allowed students to tackle multisyllabic words with confidence, and our fluency work with scooping has made all the difference.

2024 seems like ages ago, but wow, the work has paid off. Next stop? See you tomorrow, Westbury!

Warm, but firm.

We have class sizes between 28 and 34 this year. We are demanding attention, affirming the positive, and keeping things moving!

Q1 is almost up!

Progress reports are on the horizon. It’s crazy to believe we are welcoming families for conferences in less than 3 weeks!

What else would you add to the list?!

Kindergarten 🥰

Letters, words, sounds, sentences >> Kindergartners need a reliable routine that will build confidence through predictability and repetition.

I like to act like I need their help, but I also provide a little wait time, particularly when we are FIRST exploring blending.

Attention! 👀

We’re moving with urgency, but we are weaving in repetition. Also a great little introduction to phonological mergers here! (all, oll, aw, au, augh, o, al)

Wow, what a jam-packed day on spelling instruction, attention, memory, and routine. Thank you @darnealamb and the instructional coaches for the warm welcome and these amazing gifts!

Time for a bit of rest, and then off to great my friends in Minnesota on Monday! by @jake_daggett
