Got to speak with National Book Award winner and incredibly genius screenwriter Charles Yu about his legendary INTERIOR CHINATOWN—the book, and the show! Feel like we covered all my favorite topics in this interview: Writing. Representation. Race. Why we’re both so funny. Etc. Check out our interview in @electricliterature!!💡⚡️ Link in my bio :) by @jalengjones

I’ve long had this secret theory that Lisa Simpson (and her family) are lightskin Black people—specifically, that they’re Black Creoles. Read my reimagining of Lisa through this lens, via my first literary nonfic essay published in The Offing!
This piece is about many things, some being: wanting (or maybe already having), representation, Lisa Simpson, our love for being Black, and the wisdom of our lineages. Read the whole essay in @theoffingmag by @jalengjones

I’m in @variety!! So honored to be of the screenwriters selected for the inaugural cohort of @filamcreative’s TV Creator Lab, amongst all these brilliant minds. The future of television is here, and it’s FILIPINO! ❤️‍🔥🇵🇭 Special thanks to @gracesantosiam, @markjlabella, and @chefqueensay for making this all possible.

Find out a little bit about the show I’m writing out on the last slide — HUSHPUPPY🐾⚜️ (and let me know if you want to produce it) by @jalengjones

🎓Graduated with my Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing! Now get me the HELL out of here!!!!!!

But really though, I’m so so grateful for all the friends, mentors, writing conferences, literary festivals, writing retreats, readings, slush piles, personalized rejections, acceptance letters, literary journals, contest judges, agents, editors, workshop leaders, The Southern Review, the stellar @electricliterature team, the best thesis advisor I could’ve asked for @mauriceruffin, and Raising Canes for building me up into the writer and literary citizen I am now 💛 In just three years I’ve directed the Delta Mouth Literary Festival, won quite a few writing awards for my fiction, nonfiction, and screenwriting, attended workshops with Tin House, Lambda, Kenyon, and Sewanee (and adding Kimbilio to the list this summer!), worked for a couple of outstanding literary magazines, interviewed the most brilliant authors, published a few poems and essays, wrote a story collection I’m proud of, and found my place in the sweetest constellation of literary friends/rising stars 🌌 🎉

And honestly, I’m just getting started 😁 by @jalengjones

Finally brought LA (Los Angeles) to LA (Louisiana) for my last reading as a grad student 🤓 oh and Lorde had to come too obvs by @jalengjones
